November 1st is the anniversary of the repose of Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky, one of the most important and formative hierarchs in the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church since the time of the Union and St. Josaphat.
His efforts are numerous - he consecrated a hierarchy to withstand the Communist onslaught; he sent clergy and hierarchs to establish a diasporal Church on nearly every continent; he created what would become the Ukrainian Catholic University; he made invaluable liturgical, spiritual and literary contributions; and the resurgence of traditional Eastern monasticism in the Greek Catholic Churches is largely due to his vision for the Studites.
May his beatification be swift and his intercession always with us.
Metropolitan Andrey, pray for us.
