"repurposing" a bible?

I have a small business and have obtained a few old bibles. I’m wanting to re purpose a large colorful bible (this is a living word bible I believe) but am unsure if it’s ok to deface a bible, regardless of its version. Opinions?
 
This particular bible is about 4" thick and I wanted to turn it into a book with a “hidden compartment” in it. Basically removing pages to leave a space inside. It was given to me by someone who received it as a gift but never read it.
 
If isn’t a Catholic translation it can’t be counted on to contain as much truth as an approved one. My opinion would be “Go Ahead.” I mean the church burned and disposed of heretical bibles in the 16-17th century without much concern…

Whether or not it is Catholic, it is the Word of God, and what you propose may not be a sin, but a Bible IMNAAHO deserves a better use than that.

Couldn’t you sell the item at a used bookseller, then purchase a cheaper hard bound volume for your project? One that wouldn’t be potentially needed for someone’s spiritual edification.

Then of course there is what you (or a customer) would store in there…family pictures, insurance papers, self defense items… Overall, probably not the best reuse.

Yes, I sure could get another book for this project, and probably will be doing that.
 
The Bible has one purpose - your salvation. There is no other purpose for a Bible. It isn’t a decoration or storage container. Get a safe deposit box for valuables.

Some Jews won’t even throw away a piece of paper on which God’s law is written. I wouldn’t do that to the written word of God no matter what the translation.

Why not donate it to a charity book shop or an outreach group? Maybe someone else would appreciate it and it will help a charity at the same time. (I was once given a Bible by a friend, however, I already had a copy of that edition so donated it to our local catechism group - my friend understood and was very happy and it saved it from just being sat on the shelf.)
