I realise this is a selfish prayer compared to the more urgent and serious prayer requests of others, but I have been praying for years for help to end this addiction.

When I started smoking many years ago, it wasn’t as unacceptable and anti-social as it is now, and was even permitted in my workplace. Now though I’m finding it so hard to quit, I won’t even go on trips to places when invited, if I think I’m going to be denied the foolish pleasure.

Friends and family with stronger will power then me have managed to stop, and some have become very anti-smoking.

I’ve tried everything, such as the Allan Carr method, hypnotherapy, acupuncture, and much more.

I wasn’t a heavy smoker at one time, but following a long period of anxiety and stress at a time when I was caring for a loved one, the smoking increased.
I live alone now and rarely smoke in company unless I’m in my own home and am aware it doesn’t bother them, but that’s not the point, I know its bad for my health and an expensive habit, and I really shouldn’t do it.
It would be so wonderful to be able to give them up sometime during this year, in fact should I ever manage to succeed I would call it a miracle.🙂

Will be praying!

Also the best way to quit is “cold turkey”, you just need to gain enough will power and end it for good. If you suffer from withdrawals offer it up! Think about the pain that the Lord had to go through on the cross for your and mine sins. And then think of how small your suffering is compared to what He went through out of love for you! Make quitting an act of love to God, show Him that you want to care for the temple for the Holy Spirit that He gave you.

God Bless! 🙂

Prayers said for your intention to quit smoking. Hope it works out for you.

Mary.

I have such compassion for you. I quit smoking in 2008 after many failed attempts. It is hard but so worth it. I read Allen Carr’s book, hypnotherapy, Chantix, you name it. I see a psychiatrist now who addresses my GAD (generalized anxiety disorder) with medication and therapy. Without that I think I would have gone back to self-medicating with cigarettes. Not saying you have an anxiety disorder, just saying what worked for me.

St. Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou,
O Prince of the heavenly hosts,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan,
and all the evil spirits,
who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls. Amen. :signofcross:

Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion — inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself. :signofcross:

Holy Michael the Archangel defend us in the day of battle.
Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host,
by the Power of God,
thrust down to hell satan and all the wicked spirits,
who wander through the world for the ruin of souls.
Amen.

Remember, O most loving Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession and was left forsaken. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you I come, before you I stand, a sorrowful sinner. Despise not my words, O Mother of the Word, but in your mercy, hear and answer me.
Amen

Thanks again to you all, for your prayers, kind words, advice, and those shared experiences.

I want to be honest and tell you that I don’t feel quite ready to stop just yet, but I will definitely make an attempt later. I’ve given myself a year to succeed, and hope to return this time next year to inform you that I’m a healthy non-smoker. 🙂

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

No, sorry. This attitude will surely not work. In my experience, the “I’ll quit tomorrow. But for now, I’m going to enjoy my ciggies” does not work… it’ll always be tomorrow. And giving yourself a year just shows that you don’t really want to quit. When do you suppose you will “feel quite ready”? Why, you won’t, of course!

I tried to quit many times, but it was when I finally realized what I just wrote above that I was able to say NO and forever refrain from that moment onward from putting cigarettes in my mouth and lighting them. Just do it. Stop smoking cigarettes now, and in a year from now you’ll be able to say you quit. Otherwise, you’ll just be back here asking for more prayers next year.

Don’t light another smoke. Easy.

Lord have mercy on rose kelly! Give her the strength to break the nicotine addiction once and for all. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, amen.

You CAN do it. Sometimes it helps to have a major motivation.
I wasn’t concerned about my health and had been a really heavy smoker for 40+ years.

In 2012, I moved to a new flat and didn’t want it to stink of cigarettes any more than I wanted all the nice clean paint to become discoloured by nicotine.

Have you tried E-cigs? I have now been ‘smoking’ them for over 2 years. Doubt that I will ever give them up, as use them rather as one would a dummy! There are so many different types. Perhaps give them a try as there are no heath issues, no smell, no nicotine stains anywhere and no disgusting ashtrays to empty!

Good luck and God bless you 🙂

Wow! Good for you! 👍:clapping::clapping::clapping:

I think that, a lot of times, with any kind of addiction, there is often an emotional component. It’s helpful if one can address it, as well.

You can do it!!! :blessyou:

Inspired with this confidence, I fly to thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother; to thee do I come; before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful.
