Hello.

My husband just lost his job and I’m not dealing well with it. I’ve been more depressed than usual for the past weeks before this happened, and now the inertia has intensified. I’ve been getting angry at him for tiny annoyances, and I know the job loss is not his fault. I feel like nothing is good any more, even though I know this is not the case. Knowing something to be so and feeling that it is so has always been a problem for me.

I know I need prayers, but talking about this (this=husband’s job loss) would also help, provided it is charitable.

All constructive comments, suggestions and supportive statements are welcome.

Dear Crenfro,

I’m sorry you are going through this. I’ve been disabled for many years with health problems, and go throuugh periods where I’m afraid we won’t have the things we need.

Sister Lucia of Fatima said that there is no problem however great that we cannot resolve by praying the Holy Rosary.

The Holy Family will take care of you. We can lean on them. They are so wonderful.

Jesus will never abandon you. Our Mother, as Pope Leo XIII says in Magnae Dei Matris, is instantly at our side whenever we are in need, even if we don’t ask her.

But if you ask her, she will help you and your family so much. Simply invoking her frequently is extremely pleasing to her and so helpful.

In the movie “Faustina”, Faustina says that God always looks after us and finds a solution when we cannot see one.

He is all Goodness. You are very safe in His Infinite Goodness and Compassion.

God Bless.

O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.

Praying to St. Joseph for your husband to secure employment. Praying for you as well.

Part of depression is irritability. I think it’s important that you seek treatment so that you can deal with your own issues; then you will be able to help and support your husband. Whether it is pastoral counseling, therapy, or commiserating with a close friend, it would be good for you to find out where this depression is coming from and how to treat it. Since it started before your husband’s job loss, I don’t believe him finding another job quickly will magically cure that stress, as it has its roots somewhere else. It is simply exacerbating the problem.

Praying…
Lord Jesus, lead all souls to heaven
especially those most in need of thy mercy.
Our Father…Hail Mary x10
Glory Be…Fatima Prayer…Amen!

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Prayer to Our Lady of Mental Peace

O Lady of Mental Peace,
Mother of Tranquility
and Mother of Hope,
look upon crenfro in this time
of weakness and unrest.

Teach her searching heart
to know that God’s Love
for her is unchanging and
unchangeable, and, that
true human love can only
begin and grow by touching
His Love.

Let your gentle Peace -
which this world cannot give
  • be always with her.
And, help her to bring this
    same Peace into the lives
    of others.
Our Lady of Mental Peace,
  • Pray for us!
    Amen.
Jesus, Help Me!

In every need let me come to You with humble trust,
saying:
Jesus, help me!
In all my doubts, perplexities, and temptations:
Jesus, help me!
In hours of loneliness, weariness and trials:
Jesus, help me!
In the failure of my plans and hopes, in disappointments,
troubles and sorrows:
Jesus, help me!
When others fail me, and Your Grace alone can assist me:
Jesus, help me!
When I throw myself on Your tender Love as Savior:
Jesus, help me!
When my heart is cast down by failure, at seeing no good
come from my efforts:
Jesus, help me!
When I feel impatient, and my cross irritates me:
Jesus, help me!
When I am ill, and my head and hands cannot work and
I am lonely:
Jesus, help me!

Always, always, in spite of weakness, falls and short-
comings of every kind:
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, help me and never forsake me!

Amen

Prayer Against Depression
………….By St Ignatius of Loyola

O Christ Jesus
When all is darkness
And we feel our weakness and helplessness,
Give us the sense of Your Presence,
Your Love and Your Strength.
Help us to have perfect trust
In Your protecting love
And strengthening power,
So that nothing may frighten or worry us,
For, living close to You,
We shall see Your Hand,
Your Purpose, Your Will through all things.

Amen.

Let Nothing Disturb You

Let nothing disturb you,
Let nothing frighten you,
All things are passing away:
God never changes.

Patience,
Obtains all things,
Whoever has God
Lacks nothing:
God alone suffices.

Santa Teresa de Jesús
(Santa Teresa de Ávila)

Prayer to St. Joseph for the Unemployed

O Saint Joseph, we pray to you for those who are out of work, for those who want to earn their living or support their families.

You who are the patron of workers; grant that unemployment may vanish from our ranks; that all those who are ready to work may put their strength and abilities in serving their fellowmen and earn a just salary.

You are the patron of families; do not let those who have children to support and raise lack the necessary means. Have pity on our brothers and sisters held down in unemployment and poverty because of sickness or social disorders. Help our political leaders and captains of industry find new and just solutions. May each and every one have the joy of contributing, according to his abilities, to the common prosperity by an honorable livelihood. Grant that we may all share together in the abundant goods God has given us and that we may help underprivileged countries. Amen.
