My last post discussed people who visit in Church b4 Mass, sometimes very loudly. Tomorrow is Sunday so I thought that I would write this follow up post. I hope that this post will be read by some of those people who do chat in Church. I ask those folks to consider forgoing their visit with your friends until after Mass and outside where those who want to pray will not be disturbed.

Gratefully

Hope is good. There are 68 million Catholics in the U.S. Figure that maybe 20 million will attend Mass tomorrow. Your previous thread on talking in Church received 276 visits. 🙂

Mighty oaks from little acorns grow. Perhaps a new tradition (notice the lower case “t”) could begin with only the example of a few. Not only do I have hope, I believe in miracles. I recently experienced a minor miracle, just last week as a matter of fact. So if those same 276 people would start this small flame of reverence, perhaps a wild fire will commence. :gopray:

Praying for your intention …

Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

That would be great. I only have to doubt that the 276 who read here are people who otherwise loudly chat before Mass.

I share your doubt. However, if any those who quietly chat before Mass read this, I hope that they will realize that even that is inappropriate. It is still disturbing. The Lord is present. Many people, me included, would like to be at peace in prayer and don’t really care if Mary is glad to see Joan.

I don’t remember the beginning or ending of the Mass ever being a mausoleum. If the Body of Christ wants to chat and express gladness, are you more disturbed than Jesus is, you think? Maybe you could look for an hour of adoration if it’s tranquil quiet in God’s presence which you seek, but we ought not use other people’s gladness as an excuse for any lack of peace on our part.

If little things disturb us so easily, what will happen when bigger things come our way?

Holy Mass must be** from start **to finish conducted in a way that would never distract anyone from worship in a proper and fit setting.

🤷

Oh, so you are one of the chatters who doesn’t care about others. Do you not realize that while you are in Church you are actually in the presence of the Body, Blood, Soul & Divinity of Jesus Christ our Lord? What do you mean about finding an hour of adoration? Why on earth am I disturbed when I am there early and want to adore our Lord then? If the Body of Christ wishes to express its joy and gladness through chatting instead of adoring our Lord they can jolly well do so out of the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. I for one (and I hope my number grows) am there for the adoration of God. If one would like to express one’s joy and gladness through the adoration of the Eucharist I hope and pray that I will one day be able to do so in peace. You sir sound like you are very selfish.

Where did I ever say I was a chatter? I am actually as quiet as a Church mouse, and can only muster a whisper if I have to talk to others.

The suggestion for the hour of adoration refers to the custom of exposing the Holy Sacrament in a monstrance for the faithful to worship. These times are usually very quiet.

While Mass is assembling and afterwards leaving, and there’s usually a lot of hustle and bustle about, chatting certainly adds to the noise level. I am sorry that it distracts and disturbs you so easily. I can only suggest in lieu of effectively lowering the level of noise through the efficacious comunication with your priest about the issue that you somehow come to ignore the noise and dive deeper within yourself in your prayers so that you come to not even notice it anymore.

And finally, again if we are easily disturbed by small things, how will we react when big things come our way? Until you can find the silence amid the hubbub, try to accept your discomfort as a little cross to bare in penance for the thoughtless ones around you who noisily chat glad words to others in Christ’s presence.

Oooooohhhh. That will be a prettty wild fire. I pray that the Holy Spirit may fan it into flames that will never die out. Amen.

That’s rather uncharitable, don’t you think? Perhaps Mary is glad to see Joan because Joan loves her in the same way that Christ loved those who surrounded Him.

It isn’t all about ourselves.

Mary and Joan can be considerate of others, and take their talk into the vestibule, the “gathering space” or outside. “Christ loved those who surrounded Him”, but when it came to things of the Temple, I’m remembering an account about Him fashioning a whip and…well, you know the rest of the story. “Zeal for Your House consumes me.”

You’re right about one thing: It ISN’T about ourselves.

Here’s another one: Get out of your seat, and lift it up. Inside you will find what you have been missing.

First, please learn how to use the quote function correctly.

Second, Jesus drove the money changers out of the temple because they were using it as a place to make money, not because they were chatting, so your example fails to have any merit in this discussion.

Third, it is unreasonable to think that one can go out in public and have all things as they personally desire them, even within a Catholic Church. It is just something we have to deal with. I’m sure the OP would take great offense if others were to “request” that she behave in a way that they desire. It cuts both ways.

Oh, now there is where you are wrong. I was recently corrected and I changed. You are right about something I can’t go in public and have things the way I want, not even in our neighborhood. I would have prevented a recent murder if I could have. I would have complained loudly if I saw it happen. The man should not have been murdered and people should not visit in Church. I’m thinking the poster here is one of the offenders regarding the Church chatting. Both murder and Church chatting are wrong. The offense is a matter of degree. I wonder what the Lord thinks of His rude children who act like they were born in a barn in His house. It’s holy ground.

As is rash judgment, and failing to take people at their word.

I also wonder what the Lord thinks of his rude children who judge others without the omniscience necessary to understand their motivation.

I do know that He spoke about those who point out the sin in others while ignoring their own.

Tell me, what is your motivation to chat with folks inside the Church. This inquiring mind wants to know.

Do you suppose it’s okay with our Lord if I chat during the homily next week? If not, why not?

I do not chat in Church. But should someone say to me, “Good morning, how have you been? Is everything going ok?” I wouldn’t be so rude as to snap my finger, point to the tabernacle and then place my forefinger over my lips and go “sssshhhhhsssshhh.”

Chatting during the homily would be rude and out of place since it takes place during Mass.

Charity means love of neighbor as yourself. Do you agree? If not, why not?
