I just had an initial meeting as an introduction to an institution that does spiritual direction. If I choose to go forward I would need to choose a director… Anyways, I am hoping that people with experience with a spiritual director(s) can relate their experiences or give an overview of what to expect. I am hoping that hearing other peoples stories will help me in what to expect from the experience and in who I ultimately choose for my spiritual director. Thank you!

I think word-of-mouth recommendations are best. Ask your pastor, or others active in your parish. There are some directors online, but I do not recommend sessions by voice-only. Most Spiritual Directors have a free first session to ask them questions and clarify the relationship and so forth; you could “interview” a few and see who you like best.

Paying is usually sliding-scale.

I totally relate. I’m a reverting Catholic… And have been deeply pursuant of all the saints. I re-rcatechize myself with the teachings of Archbishop Fulton Sheen that are available on YouTube. That may interest you. I’ve also been very privy in noticing that some of the men in the parish that I attend have spiritual directors… I definitely can sense for me to stay humble and pursue growth I need a spiritual director.

Therefore I am also doing the same thing you are doing. There is an organization within the area that I’m at in the greater Kansas City area called School of faith… They r very interesting movement that begin 2007 with the work of a couple of men who were in the laity… what’s even more astounding to me is that these men pursued formal degrees and theology… Yet they are a family man… With children and wives and secular jobs… However the diocese allows them to operate and they work in communion with them… Into the magisterium honors their teachings… And they’re very careful about their work… And one of the gentleman that I had met in a group over here at my Parish called that man is you…" Which is the name of a men’s group program… had mentioned he had a spiritual director… And so I had gave his spiritual director call Simply to foster a dialogue to at least see if I can begin talking with other men of Catholic faith…

I also called The Parish office and spoke with the Deacon here who was mentioned to me to beginning point of contact with to begin the dialogue of the search for a spiritual director that may fit my path… As well I’m very enthused right now and have the Holy hunger that they talked about for every reverting Catholic… I’m glad I have it
