I was looking up how to pray novenas as I wanted to do one for the protection of my baby in daycare.
I noticed some have very long prayers and things to do or long meditations for each day of the 9 days and some have very short prayers and meditations to reflect on. I don’t mind either I just didn’t realize they all can be so different.

Then I read (on Catholic Answers main q&a page) that some are to God alone. I’d like to say a novena to Jesus. I’d be grateful for any recommendations on the different kinds and any websites that can show me how to pray one.

Thanks very much.

I use the website Pray More Novenas. For each day of the Novena, there is a prayer that is said. You could say one to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Infant Jesus, The Holy Face of Jesus and many more.

Thank you, I’ve heard of the Sacred Heart one, I wonder more about it. There must be so many different kinds of ways to say it though, sometimes for some reason that makes it overwhelming for me.

I thought saying a novena involved saying the Rosary for 9 days. I learned that is not the case. Some novenas do not pray the rosary at all but say other prayers instead. That was surprising to learn.
I have only done probably 2 54 day novenas. I’ve always associated them with the rosary.
St Zelie (St Thérèse’s mother) always said novenas, I wonder which ones she said and if it included praying the rosary. I wonder how, if at all, novenas were different in Paris in the 1800’s.

Anyway, I just wanted to share my surprise at learning this. I look forward to learning more.
