Hi everyone!

I’ve brought this topic up in other threads, but I thought I should give it it’s own thread.

I have heard/read that Blessed Mother will be the one to bring all people to her Son. I would, therefore, like more information as to what Muslims believe about her, both through the Koran and modern day teaching. The fact that they believe in the virgin birth and revere her is about all I know. For example, what do Muslims believe is her position relative to Jesus - do they think SHE believes her Son is the Son of God? Why do they believe in the virgin birth (other than the fact that it is in the Koran)? Do they believe in the Assumption? If not, what do they believe happened to her? Do they believe in any modern day (20th-21st century) appartions of her? If not, why not? If so, what do they believe her message is?

Sorry if that’s too many questions. Any information anyone can provide would be most helpful. Thank you.

Mary is without a doubt the most honored woman in Islam. There is a chapter in the Qur’an named after her (19), and I’ve even heard one scholar of Islam say that the honor of Jesus was that he was the son of Mary, rather than it being the honor of Mary that she was the mother of Jesus. Because in the Qur’an she is never called the mother of Jesus, but Jesus is quite frequently called the son of Mary.

Now, on to your questions:
  1. what do Muslims believe is her position relative to Jesus - do they think SHE believes her Son is the Son of God?
Answer: Muslims believe she is the mother of Jesus, and that Jesus is a human being created in her womb by the Almighty Creator. Muslims believe she acknolwedges that Jesus is a messenger and not, as Christians do, believe he is the son of God.
  1. Why do they believe in the virgin birth (other than the fact that it is in the Koran)?
Answer: The only reason Muslims believe in what they do believe in is because God has revealed it. What other reason do you expect or need? Precisely because it is in the Qur’an, Muslims know the virgin birth to be true–there is no other reason to believe in it.
  1. Do they believe in the Assumption? If not, what do they believe happened to her?
No. They believe that the same thing happened to her as happened to everyone else when their life ends… no reason to assume otherwise.
  1. Do they believe in any modern day (20th-21st century) appartions of her? If not, why not? If so, what do they believe her message is?
No. There is nothing about that in authentic Qur’an & Sunnah (teachings of Islam.) For there to be teachings not in those, it implies Islam is deficient somehow, that Allah lied when He said that this religion has been completed.

Hope that helps.

Is there anything specific in the Quran or Hadiths that says this or is it just inferred since Muhammad said Jesus was not the Son of God?

Is there any indication as to how/when/where she died and where she is buried? I don’t need any proof - I’m just curious if there has been anything said/speculated about this.

I wouldn’t think that modern apparitions would be mentioned in the Quran since there’s a bit of a time difference there. 😛 I was just wondering if there is an unofficial opinion. I was thinking specifically about Our Lady of Fatima only because the town of Fatima was supposedly named after Muhammad’s daughter or named after another Muslim chief’s daughter who had also been named Fatima - something like that. ???

Hope that helps.
Yes, immensely! Thank you for always answering my posts. 🙂

holy Quran is the criteria for us. We don’t need any other proof.

Mary in the Bible and the Qur’an

…Now, what does the Qur’an say about Mary?

The first point to note is that the noble Qur’an gives far more importance to Mary the Mother of Jesus than the Christian Gospels. The following points are noteworthy:

Mary is mentioned in the Qur’an as the most honored woman of all the nations in these words:

{Behold! the angels said: "O Mary! Allah hath chosen thee and purified thee- chosen thee above the women of all nations.} (Aal `Imran 3:42)

There is a whole chapter in the noble Qur’an titled “Maryam”, the nineteenth chapter of the Qur’an.

The Qur’an honors Jesus as the worthy son of a worthy mother: Whenever Jesus is mentioned, he is named as “'Isa ibn Maryam” meaning Jesus the Son of Mary.

I would encourage you to read Chapter 19 in the Qur’an–it’s not very long and would probably answer a lot of your questions–or help you think of new ones.

The ansewr to this question is in there. After giving birth (which according to the Qur’an she did alone, without all the manger stuff) she returns to her people and they accuse her of being unchaste and say mean things, then she basically points to the child (Jesus) in v29 and they of course comment about how the child, just a baby, cannot speak, and so they are sort of incredulous. This is the miracle we see. But in v30 the child begins to speak (which is the miracle) and he says “Indeed, I am the **servant of Allah **. He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet.”

He says a few more things, and you can read the whole story 24-34 in chapter 19 (called Mariam.)
Jay: 3) Do they believe in the Assumption? If not, what do they believe happened to her?
Amy: No. They believe that the same thing happened to her as happened to everyone else when their life ends… no reason to assume otherwise.

No, nor is there any need to speculate. As the Qur’an says, every soul shall taste death. Muslims don’t have any notions of Mary being more than human (or of Jesus being more than human, for that matter) so again, no need or reason to speculate.
Jay: 4) Do they believe in any modern day (20th-21st century) appartions of her? If not, why not? If so, what do they believe her message is?

You want to know if there’s an unofficial opinion? You mean a heresy that all Muslims reject? What is the meaning of “unofficial opinion?” First of all, Fatima is a really common name. Secondly, why should Muslims start believing in apparitions in the last 100 years or so when they didn’t believe in them before, when God nor his Messenger ever mentioned it? When the religion is complete, that means you don’t add to it anything–apparitions or anything else.

And lastly, more to the point, why should anybody believe such a thing?
Yes, immensely! Thank you for always answering my posts.
You’re welcome–I hope the information is useful.

Though looking back at the previous posts I will not be surprised if your fellow Muslims repudiates you.

I wasn’t thinking of heresy, but in retrospect I suppose to a strict Muslim it could be seen that way. Do Muslims believe God does not interact with people i.e. answer prayers, heal sick etc. That was my thought with the apparitions - that God is sending a message to us through Blessed Mother. The passages that brought about these questions for me are from a book by Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen. I would copy and paste the passages, but I can’t figure out how to work the attachments.:o Here’s just a couple lines:

“The final evidence of the relationship of the village of Fatima to the Muslims is the enthusiastic reception that the Muslims in Africa and India and elsewhere have to the pilgrim statue of Our Lady of Fatima, as mentioned earlier. Muslims attended the church services in honor of Our Lady; they allowed religious processions and even prayers before their mosques; and in Mozambique the Muslims, who were unconverted, began to be Christian as soon as the statue of Our Lady of Fatima was erected.”

There’s more to it, but like I said, I can’t figure out how to attach the quotes I want. In any event, these are the passages that have given me the questions I have regarding how Muslims view Our Lady’s apparitions.

…God is sending a message to us through Blessed Mother.
she died already ( may peace be upon her ) . Muslims don’t believe that God is sending message through her now.
I can’t figure out how to work the attachments.
Try this way : click on Additional Options ; click on attach file .
Muslims in Africa and India and elsewhere have to the pilgrim statue of Our Lady of Fatima,
Muslims don’t make statue for worship purpose . It’s strictly forbidden . To pray to a statue/ bow down in front of statue is considered as shirk/blasphemy in Islam. Punishment is eternal fire.

There are “Muslims” who go to the graves of some “righteous people” and worship there, read Qur’an there. They might sing songs about the person or pray to the person, who is dead in his grave. The fact that “Muslims” do it is irrelevant compared to the fact that such practices are complete innovations into Islam–they are forbidden, and major sins in Islam.

FYI: Muhammed suppose to marry Virgin Mary in paradise.

forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?p=3945344
That verse doesn’t mention Mary, nor does it mention Paradise. It was talking about this life–if the wives of Muhammad were being bad, then the verse was to remind them that he could divorce them and that Allah would provide for him better wives than they. But he didn’t divorce them… so we can assume, can we not, that they were the best of women? 🙂

And they were all previously married except for Aisha. I’ve never heard any interpretation that suggests the verse is about Mary. Perhaps it’s wishful thinking on your part. Who knows.

Hi everyone!
For example, what do Muslims believe is her position relative to Jesus -

We believe she believes he is a messenger of God

do they think SHE believes her Son is the Son of God?

No

Why do they believe in the virgin birth (other than the fact that it is in the Koran)?

why would you believe that God gave moses 10 commandements other than the bible

Do they believe in the Assumption? If not, what do they believe happened to her?

i dont know what is teh assumption. but i guess i don’t believe in it if it is making her into a devine person

Do they believe in any modern day (20th-21st century) appartions of her? If not, why not? If so, what do they believe her message is?

There si no problem of seeing people in yoru dreams, if one is a believing person , it is a glad tiding that god sends him good people o see in their dreams . however we don’t believe in modern day apparitions , because it is not needed nor is it somthing that we believe God woudl have to do after he completed his message wioth Islam . We believe her to be a Matriarch of the greatest belief , an extremly pious young lady whom God has honored . he chose to have her beget a prophet by his will and power without bieng touched by a man , as a miracle of his ability to the people Of israel at the time

Sorry if that’s too many questions. Any information anyone can provide would be most helpful. Thank you.
No problem ask as much as you like as long as you maintain your nice attitude .

best regards and merry christmass
