Any Baptized Male Catholic. Two-thirds of vote, plus 1. Plus, must be God’s choice, via inspiration of HS.

I’m hearing Cardinal Christopher Schoenberg is a likely First Ballot choice of many. BENEDICT has picked so many of current Cardinals …that his opinion will carry great weight !!

That would be Schoenborn…not ‘berg’. Cell phone auto-edits reek havoc on what we type !!

Anyways …his bio looks great. A top consideration for sure !!

I doubt Pope Benedict is going to share his opinion. He already stated he will have no involvement in the conclave.

He has elevated 67 of the cardinal electors. 50 remain from John Paul II. So a little less than half have been through this before. That’s a lot different from last time when I think only one or two cardinals remained from Paul VI (one of which was Pope Benedict himself).

Also, any baptized, unmarried catholic. Right?
Technically, I think he would have to have also been confirmed, since that is a prerequisite for ordination (Canon 1033). Not that they couldn’t find a bishop to do the confirmation quick . . .

Oh my … just came on 2010 statements by Cardinal Schoenborn in favor of Church doctrine reform to allow ‘quality’ homosexual relationships …with Church approval.
He has gone too far …no way he will get support of 2/3rds Cardinals !!

I don’t think confirmation is a requirement to being chosen. Both being confirmed and being ordained are requirements before installation. I know, back after Pope John Paul II died there was discussion that, if a layman was selected, he would be ordained a deacon, then priest, then bishop before installation. Same with Confirmation, technically.

I am not Catholic, in fact I claim no denomination as I am still soul searching so to speak, but I do wish the best and pray for the Church. I have a lot of respect for her. I honestly dont know anything about any of the canidates but I just hope they pick someone younger than 65, preferable closer to 60. Granted anyone can die or become ill at any time as Gods will but I would prefer seeing a younger, robust leader who can carry the burden. But either way my prayers will pray for the best and to let God’s will be done. We may not understand it but he knows best and will never let us down.

Yes … I’m thinking around 60 yo. — to allow 20 yrs of vigorous shepherding flock …like JP2 had.

There is no reason he couldn’t be married. It’s just unlikely with the competing attentions of family and Church (and the fact that there are no married Electors, since they typically choose from their own number).

Said this in 2010 interview with UK TABLET MAGAZINE, …cited on Free Republic Blog, 4/10/12 …entitled HAS CARDINAL C. SCHOENBORN LOST HIS FAITH AND ABILITY TO REASON
…all found in first several hits …of Google Search , (Cardinal Christopher Schoenborn)

Also, the UK TABLET reported in July, 2010, that Benedict had to publicly rebuke Schoenborn, in a running dispute he had against Cardinal Sodano.

So you are relying on your memory of an article from the UK Tablet from 2 1/2 years ago?

If you’re going to post something denigrating about a cardinal, you should at least quote his own words and provide a link for people to review the comments in context.

After some more research , here goes—

Jimmy Akin has recently researched this for us at his BLOG SITE…JIMMY AKIN.COM

in an article entitled CARDINAL SCHOENBORN SAID WHAAATT ?

a good read … draw your own conclusions !

I did read it. Akin’s main point is “We do not have the transcript of Schonborn’s actual words in context, so we really cannot say.” I’m curious as to how that supports the position that the Tablet article is in any way accurate. 🤷

Barring explicit evidence to the contrary, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.
