Reserving and worshipping the sacrament

When did this practice begin? I know it is of great antiquity that the sacrament might be kept back and taken to the sick, but as far as I am aware reservation and eorship of the sacrament is an innovation, as is “benediction”, neither being practised in the Eastern Churches to this day.

The reservation of the Eucharist in a tabernacle is certainly done in all Eastern churches, both orthodox and Catholic. And while they may not have adoration as formally as we do, they certainly treat the reserved eucharist with utmost respect and prayer manner. Priests must be vested to even open the tabernacle, IIRC. Bowing is done always before it.
