I don’t know the chapter and verse of this, but it keeps coming to my mind for
over a week now.

There are many ways to resist the devil, the top way being to be busy doing something that is the opposite of sin. Praying, doing something nice for someone,
working to further God’s kingdom in any way. Some people resist the devil with
holy water or other holy items, or probably as a last resort, calling an exorcist.
In our daily life, we don’t invite friendship with him by filling our heads with
inappropriate electronical entertainment, harbouring grudges, or acting unkindly.

What I am wondering is, has anyone come across something in the Bible, that
might otherwise go un-noticed, had you not noticed it, another way of resisting
the devil? We may as well not overlook any resource that God has given us…

Has anyone actually tried putting on the armor of God as described in
Ephesians 6:10-17? If so, how did you do it? Naturally I realise it is all speaking
figuratively, but we do not live in a figurative world. We need to take real actions.

Thank you for reading this…

I Peter 5:

6Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time,

7casting all your cares upon Him, for He careth for you.

8Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil walketh about as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

9Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren who are in the world.

James 4:7
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

I could be misunderstanding you but… you make it sound like it’s bad to resist the devil using non-religious means.

Please correct me if I’m wrong though. Taking up Linguistics had enhanced my ability to analyze sentences a little too well.

Jesus gave us authority to resist the devil. God is not going to do it for us. He has has made the devil a defeated foe. The devil is under His foot. Our words of faith defeat him in our lives. For example, I command you Satan to leave in the name of Jesus. 👍
Peace, Golfjack

I do? How? I am saying that not inviting his friendship is on a list of ways to resist
the devil, and thought up 3 examples.

Marsha, I like your scriptures, and
Golfjack, have you ever done this?

Just saying the holy name of JESUS or the Jesus Prayer is more than enough to keep him at bay “Lord Jesus have mercy on me a penitent sinner”

Well… just read your post again:

Why sound so negative about it? Why call it inappropriate? If it keeps satan away, then it’s a good thing right?

Hmm…would it make better sense if I said We Do invite friendship with the devil
by these three things?

Well, I still feel confused because you say “why call it inappropriate”.

Would you mind using your super-power english skills to reconstruct my sentence
to mean we should avoid doing anything that pleases the devil, so he won’t think we
are his friends? I would really appreciate this…

You resist the devil by hating the temptations of the passions and suggestions he gives to you. You defy these directly, you hate these.

This is what it means to resist the devil.

Sort of. I’d have an easier time discerning whether to agree or disagree.

Augie & Shin - Good points…
Lost Wanderer - Have you discerned any ways of resisting the devil?

I’ve been recalling the first verse from Marsha all weekend,
1Peter 5:6 – Humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God…

I like it.

Kinda. For example, why watch porn when I play a game that let’s me blow up stuff? (:<
