Dear Fellow CAF Members,

In an effort to reconstruct some of the resources and links we had accumulated for people looking for more information on examining Adventists beliefs (and on Adventist claims regarding the Catholic Church), I thought it would be good to repost some of those resources here.

Someone had recommended the following site. It is a gem indeed!!

(diesdomini.com)

Here is another useful site but it is more general in nature.
chnetwork.org/

Sincerely,

Maria1212

Hi, Maria,

It looks like you moved your request to a new thread, so I’ll repost!:

This is somewhat unrelated, and I never posted it, but I provide a very spiritual and Catholic meaning to the Seal of God and the Mark of the Beast that would be an excellent (IMHO! 😃 ) response to the absurd beliefe that the Mark of the Beast is for Christians who worship on Sunday. In my analysis, which I think makes far more sense, the Seal and the Mark are contrasting the ultimate poles, i.e., the FULL children of God (faithful Catholics) and the FULL children of the devil (total apostates, like atheists or relativistic hedonists). In other words, the Seal of God can’t merely mean faithfulness to the Sabbath alone, but to ALL of God’s truth, which means none other than faithfulness to fullness of truth, which can only be had in total in Catholicism, just as the Mark of the Beast can’t mean merely a denial of the “true” Sabbath, but a denial and rejection of the ENTIRETY of God’s grace and truth, that is, again, a FULL apostate.

Here is the link:

The Seal and the Mark, and Everything In Between

Blessings to you, Maria!

ps, I know the article is long, but it’s well worth it! trust me! 😃

btw, to further explain the above article, if SDAs think Christians who worship GOD and CHRIST, trying to love and serve Him to the best of their abilities with His saving help, but on the “wrong day”, have the mark of the beast ( ), what do they think of persons who wouldn’t be caught dead in a Church, neither on Saturday, Sunday, or any other day, and who don’t give a flying pimple on a rat’s butt whether God exists, and who only live for physical pleasures, possessions, and vain, worldly accomplishments? I mean, give me a break. I think that as the world continues its neo-pagan, apostate culture, SDAs and other anti-Catholic sects are going to have to come to terms that AT LEAST Catholicism is trying to follow Chirst, trying to live in his grace and free from the stain of the world, even if there are some peculiarities of it that they don’t agree with.

Good idea Maria1212!

Yeah, there are a few good internet resources for Catholic Apologetics to Adventists. These are my top 3, in no particular order:
.

  1. *]DiesDomini.com. An academic approach; ever-expanding library of scholarly essays, research papers, and documents.

    .
*]SDA2RC.com. A great site for inquirers; very personal in tone. With articles on all major issues, this is an excellent starting point for web-surfers.

    .
*]Sabbath-keepers blog. A Catholic blog responding to the claims of Adventists. Also: Adventism v. Catholicism by the same author. Large library of articles (easily the most extensive) responding to most Adventist arguments.

What are your thoughts of the above 3? Why not visit each and review them on this thread? It’d be a great way to become acquainted with each!

At least there is more flexibility in the Catholic church, where you can attend Saturday Afternoon MASS, and/or Sunday MASS, and in the SDA church, it is strictly only on Saturdays, and I don’t think that in this time and age, that the lord is taking roll call only on saturday or sunday only. When you attend MASS on saturday afternoon, that would be the Seventh Day. If you can not make it on Sunday, you can attend on Saturday afternoon.

I definitely recommend reading An Adventist and a Catholic by Paul Eirene. It is well-worth ordering and costs less than ten dollars. I recommend ordering several, so you will have them on hand to share. The book can be ordered from:

Ave Maria Press
P.O. Box 489, Sation U
Toronto, Ontario
Canada M8Z 5Y8

416-251-4245 or 1-800-663-Mary
Fax 416-253-0480

The ISBN number is 0-9684895-6-7

Sincerely,

  1. I have done research on all of these sights. Acutally. Steven Korsman’s (Adventism v Catholicism) was the first useful site I found.
They are all useful in finding out about Adventism from a Catholic perspective.

Thanks for posting the great resources! I have visted those sites before and they are fantastic!

I hope we can keep this thread updated periodically so we will have the latest resources.

Sincerely,

You are so funny; you have something like a personal war against the SDA which is imo rather pathetic. Just what would you do with your life without the SDA? What would you write about? How can you be so obsessed with it? I seriously don’t get it…

Hi Pedja,
To answer your question, I like to investigate things for myself, first hand, and in order to do that, I need resources.

It may seem to you I have a personal war against SDA, for wanting to learn more about it, and challenge its doctrine. It is quite the opposite. I defend my religion against those individuals and organizations that spread lies about it. Like all of us, I was searching for the truth, and found it in the Catholic Church. The more I research and learn, the more the wholeness of the truth of Catholicism brings me closer to God. The more I study Catholicism, the more I love it. I like to hear what “the opposition” has to say, because by studying their beliefs, I learn more about my faith.

Like you, I want others to know the truth. I want them to investigate it for themselves, and not be misled, however innocently, by myths and lies that others teach. As much as it may shock you, there are many things about Adventism I like and admire. I am confident part of the truth that Christ teaches us is found in the Adventist Church. But, in my opinion, the Adventist Church does not have the whole truth. Adventism is anti-Catholic at its core, and that I have a problem with.

Moreover, Christ commanded us to spread our faith. It would be selfish of me not to. I do not want other Catholics and non-Catholic Christians to be misled by some of the lies and myths the Adventist Church, historically, as spread about Catholicism. As for Adventists, I hope to separate fact from fiction when it comes to Catholicism. I don`t expect an Adventist to agree with what I say, but I hope that they will recognize that if they want to learn about Catholicism, they should learn about it from Catholics, not Adventists.

It may upset you to read things critical to your faith. I think it is healthy to read what the other side has to say. That is how we learn. Moreover, this is a Catholic forum. While what I posted may be critical of Adventism, none of it was derogatory or offensive. And believe me, there is plenty of garbage about the SDA Church floating around the Internet. (the same goes for Catholicism). My selections were quite charitable actually.

Finally, I do take my faith quite personally, and quite seriously. Christ expects no less of me. My faith is the most important thing I have. Nonetheless, while I am critical of Adventism, I separate that from individual Adventists. It was an Adventist that led me on the journey to study Adventism for myself. And I was shocked at what I learned. If you took anti-Catholicism out of the Adventist Church, there would be nothing left. It would be the same as many Protestant denominations. That being said, there is much I admire about individual Adventists.

Sincerely,

Maria1212

I agree with Maria. I’ve read some SDA literature over the years, and it is virulently anti-catholic, more so than many other Protestant denominations. They call the Church the whore of babylon, the Pope the antichrist, etc. If you search these fora, you will see a number of SDAs posting attacks on the Church. Maria is simply trying provide resources to refute their claims.

Well said Maria!
When I first became interested in the Catholic church, I had been attending an Episcopal church. My mom never really seemed to have a problem with that. When I told her that I was going to become Catholic then she had concerns. When she started making the snide remark here and there, and her and the rest of her side of the family started praying that I would “reject the fallacies of the Catholic church”, I knew I had to learn more to defend my faith.
In order to do that I had to learn as much as I could about what each of them from their perspetives. Some of the resources I’ve found refuting Adventism are very bitter and malicious. But the ones that Maria mentioned are very charitable, openly presenting both sides of the coin.
I hope that anyone who questions any religion does so objectivly, by verifying the facts, checking the sources, and making informed decisions. I don’t hold any grudges against the Adventist Church. I know from the inside that there are many faith filled people with a true love for Christ in their hearts. But I want to be prepared with the truth about the false charges that they continually present about my Church. I think that Jesus would expect nothing less.

I agree with Maria. I’ve read some SDA literature over the years, and it is virulently anti-catholic. . . .
Agreed. As Catholics, our continued interest in Adventism reflects a defensive posture–fending off their relentless criticism of our Church.

My criticism on your church has got nothing to do with the SDA. I criticize your popes some of which did nothing to stop mass murder and genocide, my criticism is on your holy bishops and priests who were blessing weapons which were then used to kill and exterminate!

Please name the Pope and tell us how you would have stopped this if you had been the Pope Tell us about what power he could have exercised to stop it. Tell us about the historical context in which these events happened. Give us both sides of the story. All you have presented above are vague accusations with no factual basis. Then tell us how it relates to the beliefs of the Catholic Church. You should at least be able to give us this.

Pedja,

We look forward to you posting on the above. Amills made some excellent points. Please open a new thread and paste the link to it here so that we can follow it.

This thread is for resources for Catholics on Seventh Day Adventism, and I do not want the thread to go off track.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Maria1212

I suppose pedja is referring to Pope Pius XII and the Holocaust. Here is a question: There were probably as many Lutherans in Germany as there were Catholics (maybe more), yet I never heard anyone anywhere castigate the Lutheran church for not doing more. Wonder why that is…:hmmm:

Indeed, it’s just funny how everyone just seems to point the fingers at The Catholic Church, even people believe it’s the catholic churchs fault that people are dying of aids. people think it’s not easy being a christian but imagine how it is being a christian (catholic) and having other people ( christians and athiests) and just totally critize everything about the lifestyle , the faith, the beliefs, etc just because your a catholic. I usualy am polite and keep my mouth shut with a smile on my face but in my head I’m tottally loosing it. it’s really amazing you’d think all these christian denominations are on the same team, it’s really sad seeing how divided christians are, and I pray The Catholic Church will one day accomplish it’s desire for unity.
