I’ve tried to find Catholic organizations that help fight against sexual assault and child prostitution but can’t find any. Covenant House (for street children) is Catholic, am I correct?

You see, I almost went into rape crisis work last year. My problem with that was that I would have had to refer women for abortions and I just could not do it. It’s really sad and I hope there is a Catholic crisis center for this kind of case. You see, many girls at my school have been sexually assaulted and many people at my school are Catholic (though my school is not). I find these are just as much Catholic issues as anything else but I can’t find organizations and I’d love to refer it to someone who might need it.

Yes, Convenant House is Catholic.

Catholic Charities provides counseling, but their services vary by location. Not all CCs provide all services. Our CC has domestic violence/rape counseling.

If there isn’t such a ministry where you are, perhaps that is your cue from God to start one.

The founders of Rachel’s Vineyard retreats have created a program Grief to Grace for victims of abuse (physical, emotional, sexual). It might be worth contacting Theresa Burke and telling her of your interest. Grief to Grace is a retreat and not a rape crisis center but I can see how a crisis center/crisis line could evolve from that.

Thank you so much! I’m in leadership positions for both our Catholic student group and our Interfaith group so I’m thinking of organizing a donation effort to Covenant House.

I want to start Catholic efforts to aid survivors of sexual assault and human trafficking. These horrible crimes have to be stopped.
