The Vaticna makes it clear that Countrys have the right to control the flow if immigrants into the country. Its concern is how they are treated when they get here.
Hmmm. Well, in that case, I would contend that it is the unethical employers who employ them illegally that abuse them, in sweat shops and so forth. Law Enforcement officials do NOT abuse them, they merely proccess them and send them back.

Sooooo, I would say to start cracking down on people who employ them illegally and aggresively prosecute those people. That would kill two birds with one stone: Alleviating abuse, and reducing illegal immigration.

I agree-and secure the borders.
 
The U.S. and Mexican bishops have written that “Catholic teaching has a long and rich tradition in defending the right to migrate.” They also say, “While recognizing the right of the sovereign state to control its borders, Exsul Familia also establishes that this right is not absolute, stating that the needs of immigrants must be measured against the needs of the receiving countries.” (emphasis added) They go on to say:
I. Persons have the right to find opportunities in their homeland.
34. All persons have the right to find in their own countries the economic, political, and social opportunities to live in dignity and achieve a full life through the use of their God-given gifts. In this context, work that provides a just, living wage is a basic human need.
II. Persons have the right to migrate to support themselves and their families.
35. The Church recognizes that all the goods of the earth belong to all people. When persons cannot find employment in their country of origin to support themselves and their families, they have a right to find work elsewhere in order to survive. Sovereign nations should provide ways to accommodate this right.
III. Sovereign nations have the right to control their borders.
36. The Church recognizes the right of sovereign nations to control their territories but rejects such control when it is exerted merely for the purpose of acquiring additional wealth. More powerful economic nations, which have the ability to protect and feed their residents, have a stronger obligation to accommodate migration flows.

The USCCB is NOT the Magestarium of the Catholic Church. It has only be around since 1966 as a meeting place for a large group of Bishops. Any opinion of the USCCB is simply the opinion and Pastoral Care of Several Bishops getting together and combining their opinions, nothing more.

The Holy See has spoken about the Sovereign nations and how the dignity of it’s citizens are to be treated and those of migrant peoples should be treated. It has never said, Let’s put all the worlds poor on a plain and send them to wealthy countries. By the way this is only a band-aid approach.

If those Bishops who want to see a free flow of immigrants really want to help the poor and the oppressed they would develop a long term plan to change the nations that are broken and help the entire population not just those who leave their homeland.

Sitting in the comfort and safety of the US and not fixing the root cause of migration is simply hollow words.

It’s beyond that. It’s irresponsible and cowardly.
Couldn’t agree more with this poster. And maybe even a non-stick band-aid at that.
By the way this is only a band-aid approach.
