Also, unlike most people, I actually know Arabic (not hugely well!), and have read the Qur’an in English, French, Bosnian and Arabic. Whilst I found it boring to read, I found many parts which were beautiful and actually had some very positive and good messages, such as passages which talk about serving God wholeheartedly and not letting physical acts such as giving water to pilgrims replace devotion to God.

What is wrong with their views on homosexuality and women? I agree that their stance on women’s job can be quite harsh and degrading, but we shouldn’t forget it IS the women’s job to take care of their household, and the men’s job to provide.

Of course they shouldn’t suffer physical violence. But it still is sinful and shouldn’t be allowed. If you want to take a non-religious stance on it, you could say it’s against nature. It’s not our preferences, it’s in our genes. It’s in our chromosomes. The point of nature creating male and female species is for reproduction–male and male does not produce children and is therefore against nature.

I must note that the argument, “If you don’t like homosexuality don’t be a homo” is plain stupid. If you don’t like animal cruelty don’t be cruel to animals. And if you don’t like slavery, don’t own a slave.
