All of thomann2’s posts consisted of a series of objections to Catholic teaching which he said were from a Baptist neighbour and yet look like some cutting and pasting. He has made no further posts either of thanks or enquiry. Am I just being cynical or could he just be a non Catholic who has tried to shake our beliefs? I have come across another post like this one in another forum.

Not only that, but it was the first posts he ever posted.

TROLL ALERT!!

My kneejerk reaction would be to distract her with a question about snake handlers.

My second kneejerk reaction would be to tell her you’re more interested in “what’s for sale” than “what’s not for sale”.

Hello All,

I’m not a Troll. I want to thank you all for you insights. I actually used one of them in my reply. The gal has not responded to me. She is my neighbor and the her father is the Pastor of the Southern Baptist church down the street. I’ve gone toe to toe with him in his church-totally unplanned and in response to his attacks on my faith. I had all the answers and he walked away silent. I had the answers because I had been debating with his daughter months prior-so God prepared me with every attack that left him silent. I went into their church on the invitation of his daughter and didn’t expect him to start attacking me. This not meant to be bragging or mean in any way. I just found it interesting that God prepared me for something would never have done before.(In terms of going into a Pastors Church and argue with him). In any case my relationship with his daughter has been up and down. I like her a person and I have even partially sat in on their service after her prodding-under the guise that it was a support group(for whatever you had). I left early. In any case I started sending her Catholic Answers stuff and we got into a discussion over Sola Fide. She brought up Ephesains and how clear it said: “You are saved by Grace, through faith not works, so that no one could boast”. She resorted to the 9 pargraphs above when I told her James is clear also"Do you need proof, you ignoramous, that faith without works is useless." I’m sure this bothered her. I ALSO EXPLAINED HER VERSE IN EPHESAINS IN WAY THAT I HAVEN’T HEARD USED: LET ME KNOW IF ANYONE HAS:

Ther is a time line in EPHESIANS 2 Chapter 2 -1 through 10.

1)First Past event “You were dead in your transgressions and sins”

2)Second Past event “For you had been saved through grace” HAD BEEN SAVED expresses the event of being saved at particular time in the past. It doesn’t say you are being saved or are saved. Also, it takes place form when you were in your sins.
3)Third part of the paregraph is present and future. “For we are his hanidwork, created in Christ Jesus for the good works that God has prepared in advance, that we should live in them” SO FORM THE TIME WE WERE SAVE (FROM THE PARTICULAR EVENT IN OUR HISTORY) we shoul live in GOOD WORKS.

I left out one important point on Ephsians 2:2:8 “For by grace you have been save through faith, and this is not from you, it is the gift of God: It is not from works, so no one may boast” That act of being saved as a particular point in time in the past coming from death to life-could only be through our faith. We would have not Good Works. But form that point on form when we are save the next verse instructs that we are to live in GOOD WORKS. Also in this verse their is a difference between Works and Good works.

Good show! God bless you. Actually it sounds like He already has.
