I know that in marriage spouses are supposed to help each other get to heaven. But is a wife ultimately responsible for her husband’s soul and vice versa? I have heard it said many times that a husband has committed a sin against purity because of his wife. Or young men blaming women’s style of dress for their sins against purity. It doesn’t sit right with me when people blame other people for their sins. Aren’t we supposed to take responsibility for our own sins as an individual, and not put it on someone else?

You are responsible for your own actions.

Yes a marriage is a foretaste of what it’s like to be in heaven and you both have a duty to help each other get to heaven, but no act of spousal sabotage, by making you do something unwittingly sinful, will prevent you from getting into heaven

1 Corinthians 7 gives hope that we could save a spouse. Marriage is intended to lead one another to God. We aren’t to lead them into sin. Ezekiel 18 shows that one is responsible for one’s own actions ultimately.

We have free agency. In order to be culpable for sin, we cannot be “forced” to do it by our neighbor or a stranger or a spouse.

We help our spouse get to heaven by encouraging them and loving them. We do not carry the weight of our spouse’s sin.

There are plenty of people in the world who would like to blame the devil, their neighbor, their spouse, the dog, their circumstances in life, literally everyone but themselves for their sins.

This is an interesting concept. I do think our number one job as a spouse is to lead the other to heaven. So if one fails then I think we bear some blame. But the free will of each spouse is seperate. And we are responsible for our own actions. You could not condemn an innocent spouse just because the other cheated…

Aren’t we supposed to take responsibility for our own sins as an individual, and not put it on someone else?
Respectfully opinion only what does God through his Prophets tell us? Are we responsible for the transgressions of others? Are all not given Free Will, right?
Freedom gives us the right to question, right?
Freedom gives us the right to examine, right?
Freedom gives us the right to choose right?
But with that comes accountability and responsibility and how our Freedom in choosing … effects the very Freedom and well being of others also, right?

Ten commandments his instructions and to teach us to know right from wrong, also? 🤔

Topic titled…Responsible for Spouse’s Soul might seek answers within His Spoken Word…and he defines a deeper maybe understanding of what …Marriage…also means…not just about… married couples either maybe? Souls of others? 🤔

Ezekiel 18 20 The person who sins shall die. A child shall not suffer for the iniquity of a parent, nor a parent suffer for the iniquity of a child: the righteousness of the righteous shall be his own and the wickedness of the wicked shall be his own

Deut. 24:16 Parents shall not be put to death for their children nor shall children be put to death for their parents. only for their own crimes may persons be put to death…
Above verses in other bibles…uses the words,. Father & Son… in place of parents and children…

As Human Beings we have a duty to help others, but not to force our Free Will upon them right?
Not just in marriage as a couple? Not just as parents, right?
But toward our …Human Family…toward all our brothers and sisters in all walks in Life, right?

There are many many Bible verses about… Marriage… Between God and His People are there not?
Jer 3:12, Hos 3:1-3, Hos 2:14 Isa 54:6-8 …just to list a few…🤔

Written is it not? .Jesus calls himself our… Bridegroom and we are all his Bride right? Includes all our brothers and sisters also, right?
Written is it not? He speaks of the Marriage Feast? 🤔

So would it be only about ones Spouse’s Soul, but the Souls of all?
Does the Biblical verses make us responsible for the sins of others?

Peace … just opinion pondering on…🌹

You have a responsibility to love, encourage, support your spouse in trying to live a Christian life while they are alive, and to pray for them both when they are alive and when they die. You also have a responsibility to not lead them into sin, where your actions could reasonably be seen as doing so. If you are not sure whether your action is leading husband to sin, you discuss with your priest.

You do NOT have a responsibility to keep them from choosing with their free will whether or not to sin. And your husband should not be blaming other people, whether it’s you or anyone else, for his own sins. That doesn’t fly with God. Adam tried it already and it didn’t work.

But is a wife ultimately responsible for her husband’s soul and vice versa? I have heard it said many times that a husband has committed a sin against purity because of his wife. Or young men blaming women’s style of dress for their sins against purity.
Unless the wife put a gun to her husband’s head and said “watch this porn and masturbate” then the husband, not the wife, is the responsible party.

It goes back all the way to Adam and Eve. Adam rejoiced when he saw Eve and then the next second blamed God for giving him Eve.

If we deliberately entice somebody into sin, yes, we are responsible for the sin of scandal.

You are not responsible for your spouses soul,but for your own actions. But, that doesn’t mean you can’t try to help your spouse on the right path or help them get to heaven. It is ok to have some blame,but remember God gave us free will.

Please note that the TOS for the forum forbids posting or discussing material from unapproved private revelations, which is what you posted.
Also, Catholics are not required to believe private revelations, even approved ones.

My understanding was that this was investigated and was approved by the Church. In addition to being investigated by Fr Gallitzin (aka Fr Smith) Bishop Carrol met with Mr Livingston and gave his approval.
While no one is required to believe private revelations it stands to reason that if we act in a way that causes someone else to sin then we share in the culpability for that sin.

As far as I know, the only “Bishop Approved” apparition in USA is Our Lady of Good Help in Champion, Wisconsin, which was only recently approved. A couple more are “approved for faith expression” in some way, which means you can go pray at the site or have some devotion connected to the alleged apparition or locution, but the Church isn’t officially taking any position on whatever the apparition or locution said. In this case, the Livingston property at Wizard Clip is owned by the Church who operates a retreat center there so one can certainly go and pray (I think there’s a monument to Mr Livingston as the donor of the land too, he’s not a saint or on the path to sainthood or anything ) but the alleged statements made by this mysterious Voice are unapproved. They are unlikely to ever be approved because the Livingstons aren’t recognized as saintly people and the whole thing is mostly just a ghost story, on the same level with alleged Purgatory souls coming back and leaving burning handprints. One can believe it or not but we can’t post stuff the voice allegedly said on here.

… Aren’t we supposed to take responsibility for our own sins as an individual, and not put it on someone else?
Yes.

Catechism
1868 Sin is a personal act. Moreover, we have a responsibility for the sins committed by others when we cooperate in them :
  • by participating directly and voluntarily in them;
  • by ordering, advising, praising, or approving them;
  • by not disclosing or not hindering them when we have an obligation to do so;
  • by protecting evil-doers.
1869 Thus sin makes men accomplices of one another and causes concupiscence, violence, and injustice to reign among them. Sins give rise to social situations and institutions that are contrary to the divine goodness. “Structures of sin” are the expression and effect of personal sins. They lead their victims to do evil in their turn. In an analogous sense, they constitute a "social sin."144

We have a moral obligation at the risk of our own soul to help others go to Heaven. This predates the New Testament.

Yes, when you put it that way it makes sense. I have always felt that we are ultimately responsible for our own sins (except in the case you just put forth). I am just frustrated with men who have blamed their wives or women in general for their sins against purity. My sister’s ex boyfriend (Catholic) tried to put the blame on women for why men turn to porn saying that their choice of dress leads men to sin. I just simply said, well why don’t you just look away? It’s better to pluck out your eyes then to fall into sin (or something like that. Can’t remember the exact Bible verse).

It is interesting that men have tried to blame women since the beginning of time. Also interesting is the fact that God punished them both, not just Eve.
