Responsorial Psalm at a funeral

On what basis. It is a psalm, and I will suggest to you that very few psalms set to music are a direct translation. Also we are talking about the funeral Liturgy which there is a great deal more leeway in the selections used.

No there isn’t any leeway. In fact it should be regulated more strictly.
The GIRM is clear: any collection of psalms outside the Lectionary or Gradual must be approved. For liturgical texts, this means a concordat cum originali. does such a collection exist with On Eagle’s Wings?

there is no leway. in fact, there are several quality collections of responsorial psalms that follow the text of the lectionary exactly.

If it is true that “very few psalms set to music are a direct translation” then that means “very few psalms set to music” are suitable for usage as the responsorial psalm. its that simple.

It’s not abuse. The psalms you hear in mass are not verbatim and not all responsorials are psalms. and not all approved texts are in the lectionary.

There are choices and the vast majority of responsorial prayers have been put to music and yes wording is changed to accomidate the music but the meaning is not sacraficed.

The word in “on Eagles wings” pretty much match the parts of the psalm.

actually he is. a question was asked about the lacaity of using “Eagles wings” as a responsorial psalm" and he responded that it wasnt an abuse. he also made a mention about the seasonal psalms, but he still made it clear that he thought using “Eagles wings” as a psalm was perfectly fine, WHICH IT IS NOT.
