Nicene Creed: “On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures”
If this is true than Jesus must have been rising a first time. “rose again” tells us that there must have been at least one rising of Jesus previous to the rising of Easter.
What does the Church say about it?

He stood once. He died and rose again.

The way I understand it is this; you have to “lay down” to die. So “rose again” means, in this case, he was standing once more. It does not imply this was the second (or more) time he reserructed.

Again, this is my humble opinion. I hope it helps you out!

Peace and God bless.

Hi,

I have seen a reply by Father Vincent on this website which addresses this question. He stated that Christ only rose from the dead once. The context of the ‘again’ is that of: “the child fell over and got up again”.

God bless

Luke 24:34 “dicentes quod surrexit Dominus vere et apparuit Simoni”
Saying: The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.

re-
prefix meaning “back to the original place, again,” also with a sense of “undoing,” c.1200, from O.Fr. and directly from L. re- “again, back, against.” Often merely intensive.

It seem that the prefix Re- have a wider meaning than just Again, ie. doing things again. This turned out to be a linguistic question and not a theological one. 🙂
