I, also, was not a huge fan of Tom Petty. But I do have an early memory of one of his songs he recorded with The Heartbreakers, “The Waiting”. In the early 1980’s, I attended Camp Grace Bentley, a summer camp north of Port Huron, Michigan for kids with disabilities. The counselors in my cabin often had music on, and “The Waiting” was one of the songs that they played most often.
What I liked about Petty was he still was making rock music when disco and 80s pop was popular. He made a lot of good songs, that are still enjoyable, and is in many ways under appreciated.
