Should a Catholic in normal circumstances rest on Easter Monday ? Is it necessary in a way it is on Sundays?

The Church teaches us to rest on Sundays because of the Third Commandment, and, strictly speaking this only applies to Sundays (and Holy Days of Obligation, as decreed).

Hence it would be no direct sin against Church teaching to throw oneself into work on Easter Monday.

However it is prudent to take the opportunities for rest, recreation and family time that are given to us, and to care for our wellbeing.

If you can, and if you have thrown your bodily self into the Triduum, then a good rest on EM is indeed good and desirable.

However, EM as a day of rest is not normative in the sphere of Church rubrics. You can work if you need to.

ALLELUIA and ICXC NIKA.

No, you don’t have to rest on Easter Monday. Some states treat Easter Monday like a public holiday, but most do not.

Wish I could!

I worked all weekend at the hospital (very busy), played the piano for a 2-hour concert on Friday (I was a sub for an accompanist who bailed on the singers), and attended a family dinner at my in-laws’s hoarder house (hard to find a place to sit there) last night. Plus, Wisconsin beat Kentucky!

And of course, I attended the beautiful Easter vigil Mass on Saturday night!

I’m exhausted!

Did y’all know that in North Carolina, Easter Monday is a State holiday? Wish it was here in Illinois! Of course, I don’t think that anyone will work very hard today (except those of us who work in medical fields)–Northern Illinois is mega-excited to see the Badgers in the Final! Lots of UW Madison alumni here!
