When I was a freshman in high school, I cheated on a lot of things in school. I feel horrible about it now, and have confessed. I also never made restitution for this, but in my last confession I confessed to cheating and not making resitution for the things I cheated on. the priest gave me penance and didn’t say anything about making restitution. is it necessary? I feel horrible about it, and have a problem with scrupulosity. I’m a senior in high school now, and I just want to forget about these things, but I can’t.

Start off by praying for all those you have wronged by all your sins (and don’t discount the value of prayer, Jesus spent a great deal of His time in prayer, so clearly it has great value).

Then perhaps go back to your priest - if you want advice sometimes you specifically have to say ‘there’s something I’d like your advice about …’ otherwise it just doesn’t register - and then tell him about your cheating, ask if he thinks you need to make restitution and if so, how. Then abide by what he says unless it’s clearly wrong (if he says cheating isn’t a sin at all, for example). 🤷

How would a person even make restitution for cheating in class?Anyway once you have gone to Confession and received absolution you vowed never to cheat again…right?

Sometimes I still feel guilty about stealing a penny piece of candy when I was five years old!!! How would I pay that back? One penny? The value of that candy today? One cent with compounded interest?I have no idea if the people who owned the store are still alive.Do they have ancestors??? A person can go crazy…but you know what? I learned my lesson that’s for sure.
