Suppose a person used to download music and software inappropriately, a long time ago, and he has been to Confession since then and, he thinks, mentioned the music, but forgot to mention the software. He does not remember being told to make restitution for the music, but is he obligated to make restitution for the software? If so, how should he do it?

Sometimes it is hard to make restitution to the entity from whom you stole, especially after so much time has passed. I was once told to give the determined value to the poor. But mention it to your priest the next time you go to confession and he will advise you.

Thank you. This should not, therefore, keep him from receiving Communion, correct?
 
i can’t get to do a proper search at the moment, on dsi. BUT i know Fr. Serpa answered a similar question in ask an apologist.

from what i can remember, restitution, is nesscary [not for absolution though] and when difficult to give to who is rightfully owed, we should give the monies and or times owed to charities, those in need, etc.

i don’t think it’ll keep one from communion IF there’s been a valid confession. i could be wrong though

try searching ask an apologist though, i’m SURE i saw this answered there

They if it was depending on if it was grave…would need to mention it in number and kind etc in the next confession after they remember…(once they realize …for if they forgot…a lot of time can pass by before they realize …etc)

As for the how of restitution…they can discuss it with the confessor…he can perhaps advise…

Until then, is it acceptable to receive Communion (even if it was grave) assuming there has been a Confession, during which nothing was voluntarily withheld, since then?

No. This should not keep him from receiving Communion. But if the forgotten offense is grave matter, he is obligated to mention it the next time he goes to confession, since he has now remembered.
