This thread is interesting isnt it because it does bring to the front your knowledge of history,politics and economics and opinions but my gut feeling is the current economic and political governance is changing and that banking policy has a huge influence on govt policy across the globe which hasn’t worked and people are not satisfied with secularism…are you?This is a ‘everything is for the best in the best of all possible worlds’/‘having your cake and eating it’ answer - since pointing out the financial mechanics of, say, Bourbon France or Spain would merely bring the response that they weren’t ‘proper catholic monarchs’ in some way.
Perhaps you should investigate the recent history of the Vatican Bank (or, perhaps, the Pope isn’t a ‘proper Catholic monarch’)?
