JKirkLVNV:
Please see the following link. The words “expectant” and “suffering” are interchangeable in this regard.
As we say Here in NOLA. “Xscrooze Me!”

I just thought suffering sounded better, And might induce the faithful to Pray for the Dead.

God Bless

we should also bring back the cool curved mitres. The little pop-out pentagons just dont cut it sometimes. For every day use the pentagonal ones work, but on more solemn occasions the jumbomitre would be cool.

I thought they DID use the big, curved ones, esp. the popes at solemn occassions. Which ones do you mean? Can you post a picture?

I think the pope should wear whatever Peter wore upon his head. Now that’s tradition! 👍

I would beware of getting my definitions of catholicism from Answers.com

The Baltimore Catechism had it right.
And as far as Papal headgear goes, The Magnificent One, Of late memory, Seemed to put just about anything on his head (including pagan headresses) Everything BUT the Papal Tiara.

I think the current Holy father,(God Bless Him) Would look totally Sick! in the Tiara.

Now, Dave, you’ve just committed the grim, grim heresy of “antiquarianism” (there may be more consonants in that than I’ve allowed for, but I’m sure you understand the deadly import of your error). According to *Mediator Dei (or at least some people’s interpretation thereof), *we aren’t supposed to harken back at all to the Apostolic or Patrisic periods in any nostolgic way whatsoever and we’re to allow whatever has developed to continue to organically develop (which means that eventually the Holy Father will have a quadruple tiara or quinduple one or an actual beehive on his head, depending on how events unfold). In the spirit of fraternal correction and love, I call upon you to recant this deadly error of yours. Penance? Sackcloth and ashes and you can stand outside my house for three days in the snow. Please pick me up a Starbucks double latte (non-fat) with a little artificial sweetener on your way over.

As it happens, they’re correct and if you think “Church Suffering” excludes “Church Expectant,” then you’re incorrect. “Church Expectant” is also a traditional, venerable term.

Pagan headress? Do you mean “native?” The terms are not mutually inclusive. One more “traditional” back-handed slap at John Paul II by a “traditionalist.” Funny how they’ve rarely shown “traditional” reverence for the last four popes.

I don’t think the Holy Father (God bless him) would look at all “sick” in the tiara. Just inappropriate. But then, perhaps we can both be made happy: maybe he’ll wear the tiara when he declares “The Magnificent One” to be a saint.

the first ones with cardinal ratzinger has more elaborate versions of the pentagonal mitre i dont like. the rest of them are the megamitres i like, large round leaflike spires.
I like those, too. The old Holy Father’s got smaller and smaller toward the end of his life. I think they may have been too heavy for him to hold up his head.

Where y’at, Quicumque! How’s ya mama’nem?

I cut my eyeteeth on the Baltimore Catechism, too. I can remember John XXIII wearing the tiara and being carried into St. Peter’s on the throne carried on the shoulders of several men at the opening of VII. Styles of mitres appear to change over the course of history. If one looks at medieval manuscripts the mitres were quite small compared to today and overwhelmingly of the pentagonal sort. I don’t really think in this day and age that the tiara would be appropriate although I do like Benedict wearing John XXIII’s other papal trappings. Haven’t seen them in many a year either.

May you have a Blessed Christmas down there in the City. I can’t bring myself to say merry this year.

I like the Tiara, but I don’t think it should be brought back. The Supreme Pontiff needs to a beacon of meekness and humility of heart, just like the Divine Redeemer.

Well I am of European descent. And Being from Nola, I have a few other things mixed in as well. (Its all Good!) But since europe is my “Native” culture, and the Tiara is definitley European, Why couldnt He put it on once in Awhile? Not just for Me personally, But for all European “Natives”

And BTW you dont know if i am A “Traditionalist” or not. (Whatever that is) I assist at the Tridentine Mass on Sundays. And on the weekdays that I get to daily Mass, Its strictly Novus Ordo for me. I guess that might make me A Catholic?

I think, like the rest of us, hopefully, by God’s Grace, the Holy Father would do better to wait for Jesus to give him his crown, though I’ve no doubt he’s got a fancy one coming.

Fine, I’ll modify that to “one more back-handed slap at John Paul II by the ill-informed.”

That said, I’ll pray for your family.

Thank you for your Prayers.
I will pray that we both attain that Heavenly Crown.
And to Quote someone who is already enjoying the Beatific vision,
“I pray that we may meet in Heaven where we shall be Merry forever” St. Thomas More
