NPR can not be considered a credible source for things Catholic. The content of this article simply confirms this. The author plays with terms such as pedophilia, homosexuality and clerical scandal to obfuscate the facts. There is plenty of current research indicating that the epidemic of clerical sex scandals correlates with the rapid growth of homosexuality among the clergy.
 
I strongly agree with this assessment.

We see a lot of finger pointing here on CAF at the Pope, from people who haven’t been happy with him since he began his reign.
