At the very end of revelation it says there will be a new heaven and earth and we would be in the presence of God. Will we be spirits or will we have physical bodies. I think it says something about eating of the Tree of Life which would allow us to live forever. It looks like we are coming full circle and are kinda back in the garden of eden. What is the Catholic view of “Paradise Earth” as a Jehovahs witness would put it?
 
In the Nicene Creed, we say, “I look for the Resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.” What do you think it’s talking about here?

We will be in our resurrected glorified physical bodies, as Jesus had at His resurrection.

As St. Paul said in 1 Cor 15, “We shall not all sleep [that is, die], but we shall ALL be changed…The trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible.”

“Paradise Earth” is the best that Jehovah’s False Witnesses can hope for, because (they say) the 144,000 class has been filled up already for some decades. All they can get is a second-class salvation, but then again, they believe in a second-class Jesus who is NOT God Incarnate (and didn’t rise from the dead in his physical body, anyway) and cannot offer FULL salvation as Christianity (Catholics are NOT alone in this) has traditionally taught.

In other words, it’s a false teaching.

To interpret the last chapters of Revelation as a new Edenic existence is being childishly literal with the text.
 
Well, the Jewish idea of a resurrection did not necessarily involve any sort of transformation. And, indeed, it is not obvious what activities of Jesus after his resurrection are attributable to which nature.

I think the emphasis on the physicality of the resurrection is the one thing JWs have mostly right. (We shall not mention problems with their two-tiered system right now). recall that Catholic anthropology is specifically that we are NOT our souls – we are essentially embodied creatures, and must always be so.

This is the passage I was refering to. I know we will live forever at this time and be in resurrected bodies. We were denied access to the Tree of Life in the garden of eden but will be allowed in the New heaven and new earth.

Luke 24:37-43 seems to demonstrate a human nature
37 But they were startled and frightened, and supposed that they saw a spirit. 38 And he said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do questionings rise in your hearts? 39* See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself; handle me, and see; for a spirit has not flesh and bones as you see that I have.” 40 And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet. * 41 And while they still disbelieved for joy, and wondered, he said to them, “Have you anything here to eat?” 42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43 and he took it and ate before them.

At the end of the world, when Jesus comes as just Judge, all of us will be given new physical bodies but they will still be the bodies we have now, just glorified. Both our souls and bodies shall be united.

The truth is that no one knows how it is going to be. All we know is that we will have our bodies with us and thats it. We dont know how heaven is like or the new earth. Our human minds can not comprehend what is in store for us in the next life but all we know is that we will be happy and finnaly be with God.
 
I know I shouldn’t think about this stuff much. They are things that must happen and If I follow what jesus taught then I will have no problems. It is just interesting the language used in revelation. This seems to be the most appealing think for JW’s. Almost none of them think they will be in heaven so they think they will be on “Paradise Earth”. I totally reject the JW theology but it does appear that here will be a new heaven and earth and we will be in glorified bodies there. Jehovahs witnesses believe in Free will so maybe they are right about some things? I would like a Jehovahs witness response on this topic to compare to Catholic Belief, which I subscribe to…

Well, all I can say is the bible is clear, all good people go to heaven (except king david because there is a scripture that says King david didn’t go to heaven) but all other good people go to heaven. Then I think some will come down on earth later and live in spirit bodies. In these spirit bodies they will float about like angels and build houses and eat and live in peace because "the meek shall inherit the earth.

Actually the Bible is quite clear that NO ONE is “good enough” to go to Heaven except by the grace of Christ. The Saints in Heaven are redeemed by His blood. Some lived good lives, some were heinous sinners - all are redeemed by His sacrifice. If simply “being a good person” were sufficient to allow us to enter Heaven, why would Jesus have come to die?

Where in Scripture do you think it says King David didn’t go to heaven?

I don’t believe there is anything in Scripture that could be a basis for your “floating about in spirit bodies” idea. . . . Jesus’ resurrected body was substantial, he invited Thomas to touch Him, and ate with the Apostles precisely to demonstrate that He was not a ghost. Since in the resurrection we will be LIKE HIM (1 John 3:2) we must conclude that we will have substantial bodies, but with abilities far beyond what we are now able to do/be.

I agree with others here the “paradise earth” must be wrong because the bible says “the meek shall inherit the earth” so clearly it is not the EARTH that is where the just shall live but in heaven.

Also the bible speaks of a new heaven and a new earth, so the JW are WRONG because we will all live in heaven with god and the new earth will only have the animals (and maybe the unrighteous). I think the unrighteous may live on this “new earth” because Proverbs 2: 21, 22 (New Jerusalem Bible) says

“For the land will be for the honest to live in, the innocent will have it for their home; 22 while the wicked will be cut off from the land, and the faithless rooted out of it.”

REMEMBER when the bible says “land” it means “heaven” so its clear, the wicked will remain on the earth and the righteous to to heaven "the innocent will have it (land=heaven) for their home.

The idea that righteous people will live on the earth it totally wrong as you can see as our Lord Jesus taught us in the Lord’s prayer “thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven” … no mention of earth “as it is in HEAVEN”.

Reject false teaching, the holy church teaches us all we need. The bible says nothing about living happily on earth forever, only ONLY heavenly life.
