Resurrection cross used for Mass

The parish I typically attend for daily mass has a “Jesus rising from the cross” type behind the altar in which Jesus bears an uncanny resemblance to a 1980s mini-series star, Richard Chamberlain, including the haircut and the cleft chin . . . most unsettling. I try to keep my focus on processional crucifix off to the side.

My question about the Resurrection Cross is this…

If Christ is risen, why is he still on the cross?
 
To answer the question as to why the crucifix is used at Mass when Jesus is resurrected:

The Mass is a re-presentation (making present again) of the most life-giving moment in history: when Jesus gave Himself in complete self-donation for us, not only dying for us but choosing to SUFFER for us also. The altar is the cross. The priest is In Persona Christi both as the High Priest and willing victim. We, the parishioners, as the Body of Christ, are standing with Mary at the foot of the Cross joining with Mary in offering our lives, joys, prayers and sufferings. We are uniting them with Christ who is offering Himself to God (which is what is going on at the Crucifixion).

In the same way every Nativity scene has Jesus as a baby, even though He is no longer a baby, But the point of a Nativity scene is that it is memorializing a very important time in history when Jesus condescended for love of us and came to earth.

Also check out Galatians 3:1. Paul speaks of publicly portraying Christ as crucified. In
1 Cor 1L23 Paul says “We preach Christ crucified”.

He didn’t have the longer hair, nicely coiffed, in Dr. Kildare that he had in the mini-series years! I’m old enough to remember both!!
