Hi, what does the resurrection of the body in the Apostles creed mean? Are our earthly bodies to be resurrected? How should we treat the body after death if it is to be resurrected? Thank you

Hi,
  1. what does the resurrection of the body in the Apostles creed mean?
  2. Are our earthly bodies to be resurrected?
  3. How should we treat the body after death if it is to be resurrected? Thank you
greetings!

1). It means you will have a body in the “next life,” a real, solid, live body; and your “human body” (psychikon soma) will somehow even in death give rise to the new living body.

2). Saint Paul calls the psychikon soma a “seed.” (1 Co 15) The seed goes in the ground and “dies” (dissolves) to form the new life it originally held. Likewise, when the human body dies, we do not sow “the body that shall be.” The life and form of the original human body go into the new “pneumatikon soma” (spiritual body) which holds your everlasting life and mind.

You cannot pour everlasting life into an old human skin. You need to grow a new skin 🙂

3). Even though the dead human form must go back into nature, it must be respected as the live human being it once was and will yield everlasting life to. Cremation is allowed, but ashes or body must be laid in a holy place because human life is holy. The body has died, but life is eternal and as our LORD said, “a body has thou prepared me.”

These will be the same bodies people had in earthly life—but our resurrection bodies will not die and, for the righteous, they will be transformed into a glorified state, freed from suffering and pain, and enabled to do many of the amazing things Jesus could do with his glorified body catholic.com/tracts/resurrection-of-the-body
What a glorified body is, is a mystery.

Jesus resurrected body was not a resuscitated body, but a glorified body, whatever that means.

A mortal body can not pass through walls and disappear into thin air, as Jesus did.

So, like Christ, we will have a glorified resurrected body, but that is a mystery.

Don’t think of the mortal flesh and blood which decays, or even may be destroyed in fire.

But a glorified body will will be free of the pains of sin.

The resurrection of the body will be as Jim said…different, and free of pain.

The body will be submissive to the soul and will not struggle with the soul as we find now.
The body will be at perfect peace and harmony with the soul…truely one and not a tug of war to take control. It’s joy will be to share in the soul’s happiness with which it will be flooded.
Our bodies will be at perfect peace in unbelievable joy and oneness of purpose with that of the soul.

The resurrected body of those who died without God will be a different story. We can only guess, but probably just the opposite to those of the saints.

May God bless and keep you. May God’s face shine on you. May God be kind to you and give you peace.
