How to explain the resurrection of the body since, except for some incorrupt saints, the flesh decomposes?

We will be resurrected in a glorified body, not exactly the frail and decayed body of the tomb.
*Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. - 1 John 3:2

1 Corinthians 15:52:
In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible

Saint Paul compares our Human Bodies to a seed.

A seed does not survive the process of germination. It bursts and decomposes, but the life it contains brings forth the new plant life.

Likewise, the corruption of our Human Body does not impede the formation of “the body that shall be.”

I’m not trying to challenge. I simply don’t remember a reference to a seed. Can you cite a verse for me?

1 Co 15, ESV:
The Resurrection Body
35 But someone will ask, “How are the dead raised? With what kind of body do they come?” 36 You foolish person! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies. 37 And what you sow is not the body that is to be, but a bare kernel, perhaps of wheat or of some other grain. 38 But God gives it a body as he has chosen, and to each kind of seed its own body.

Our present body vs the resurrected glorified body is not comparable to seed vs the plant arising on its decay. In the latter case there is absolutely no similarity in any features between the two whereas in the former case the basic features are retained .Jesus’s resurrected body even had the mark of wounds. Eternal joy, seeing and praising God etc. in heaven mean retention of feelings, vision, hearing etc.Suffering in hell with fire, worms etc. are also relevant . Mark 9:43-48 saying that it is better to enter into heaven with one eye/ hand than going to hell with both eyes/hands where there the worm does not die and fire does not quench are also pointers.

Like all analogies, Saint Paul’s is imperfect.

The issue is not how much the spiritual body will resemble the original human one; clearly to be human, one has what can be called a “human body.” So things like head, hands, feet, etc, will be included.

Still, it will not be the same body as before death, due to decay. And that is where the seed metaphor comes in. As for the plant, so the human being, would not be prevented by decay from experiencing the “body that shall be.”

St. Paul’s analogy is merely the one Jesus Christ Himself uses in John 12:24
There is a lot of correspondence between Pauline and Johannine theology. Wonder why Paul missed out the overall importance of the Word emphasized by John ? He doesn’t speak of the Word, as something that can move the mountains, raise the dead and cure the sick ?

Just say the word and my servant will be healed.

Paul emphasizes the Word a lot. The Word is Jesus. Remember that verse? “The Word of God is sharper than a two-edged sword, able to discern reflections and thoughts of the heart?” Compare that to Revelation 1’s description of Jesus.

You mean, emphasizes Jesus. For he hardly quotes Jesus’s words anywhere. It’s the word of Jesus that raise the dead and cure the sick.

Remember, SP **never **knew our LORD as a human being. So he never heard Him speak. And there was no NT yet.

He speaks superflously about Him. What more do you want?

First of all, the words of Jesus were kept by the Apostles. So Paul must have heard them from the Apostles and other Christians.

Secondly, it’s the fundamental concept of the word being mighty, that is missing in Paul’s theology. To Paul, the word = preach or tell a story about Jesus. He’s not familiar with the concept of the Apostles being Christians that echoes the words of Jesus in order to raise the dead and cure the sick.

Well, I would like him to speak the words of Jesus, not just be the body of Jesus. Because I believe the words of Jesus, are the words of God, that created the heavens and the earth. That they are as powerful as that.

Matthew 24:35 “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.”

The word is just as important as the body. What more do you ask?
