Retiring altar linens

I just posted this in Ask a Question and realized that this was the forum I wanted to post on, forgive me. This should be a common sense thing but we are very frugal in our Parish and I am uncertain as to when to retire some of the linens. We have many purificators that have no holes but are very worn and frayed around the edges. I have been trimming them and folding them in so they can be used by the EMs but have advised the ladies not to use them on the Priest’s chalice because the frayed edges would show. Should I try to get some more use out of them or just remove them and request new ones. I am spending more and more time trying to make them presentable even for the EMs. Of course, I always immediately retire anything with holes but just trying to get full use of the ones I described.

Altar linen such as purificators should be a regular expense in the annual or even monthly parish budget. You can only stretch them so far. People replace their tea and dish towels more than every few years, after all. And you are doing a fabulous job! Most people wouldn’t go to these lengths!👍

I needed and so appreciate your opinion. I love this forum.
 
If there is a salvagable portion, you might cut them down for use by those who take communion to the home bound. Smaller ones are more useful there, and it decreases the wear and tear on the large ones.
