I went on my retreat at St.Adelbert Abbey recently.
The monks follow the rule of St.Benedict of Nursia.
They start their daily routine very early, before 6 in the morning and finish before 9 in the evening. They sing psalms, pray and read from the Holy Scripture.I did this holy ritual together with the monks and it brought me into great serenity and peace. We’re not allowed to talk if it’s unnecessary. We ate together as well and the surroundings inside and outside the abbey were mesmerizing.I felt spiritualy closer with God and nature. The monks’ motto according to St.Benedict’s is treat the guests as you treat Jesus Himself. It’s so great to be with the monks and their spiritual routine. They are so helpful and wonderful voices they have! When I left the abbey I missed it immediately.I missed the serenity, the silence, the ritual even the monks
and I miss all everyday and try to do the spiritual routine of the monks in my daily life.
Next year Godwilling I’ll go there again on my retreat.
Btw,have any of you experienced what I have?
