Return Of The Tridentine

Hello All,

A thought has just crossed my mind: What do you think would happen, hypotheticly, if the tridedentine mass was made once again the main form of worship of the church, and the novus ordo mass was eliminated? Would you see it as being a long prosses, perhaps starting with each parish having to say 1 TLM per month and then eventualy getting rid of the NM? Do you see perhaps schizm happening? Do you think this may ever happen, if not, why? And if so, how long till then?

Personally I believe that if the TLM have returned to the Roman Church, I would have to say that there would be an increase in Vocations and also a increase of Mass attendance due to the fact that the way we Pray affects the way we live. This is just my opinion ofcorse!

I don’t see this ever happening. Too many appreciate the Ordinary Form – we can participate much more fully and prayerfully when we understand the language. I’ m very happy to see the Extraordinary Form made more available for those who prefer it, and for those who attend on occasion. But don’t expect the OF to go away.

If it ever happens, and I doubt it will, it won’t happen overnight. The majority of priests today won’t have the necessary formation in the Latin and the rubrics. It would require a huge re-education of clergy from bishops on downwards. There’s no looking back, you can’t put the genie back into the bottle.

More likely would be a slow reform of the Ordinary Form, or perhaps more discipline so that the OF resembles more what Sacrosanctum Concilium had in mind, perhaps starting at the seminary level with better Latin and liturgical formation.

We already had one recent revolution that nearly tore the Church apart. Another one so soon might not be a great idea. I think there are bigger fish to fry at the moment, not the least being Curial reform.

Ive heard of that as well… There were reports that PBXVI formed a small council of 4 or 5 bishops to look into reforming the new rite to make it more like the old rite, changing it to something like the 1965 missal:

Its essentially a Tridentine mass in the vernacular, with certain parts simplified.
