Thank you all for the support and advice. I went downtown to Chicago today to St Peters where they have confession all day. I have to admit that I sat in the quiet church for over an hour before I approached the confessional. I was so nervous I had to make myself get up. I took the advice someone posted for me and just told the priest that I had been away from the church for over thirty years and asked him to help me. He asked me several questions and told me stories from scripture as we went through my 30+years of sin. The priest had good advice for me and seemed to know exactly what I needed to hear. I am glad that they have so many confessionals because he talked to me forever. I walked out right as mass was starting. It was a great day.

That is very very awesome!
Thank you for letting us know that you’ve come home. Makes my day!

So happy you are back. What exactly motivated you to return? There are family members that I pray for so earnestly, but no apparent results so far. Would appreciate any advice that you can offer.

What joy there must have been in the heart of the priest who heard your confession!

I just had a similar experience. It had been over 20 years since my last confession… Found a Franciscan Church near my office has confession in the morning, at lunch and in the evening every day. (Being in NYC, a confession actually is hard to find in the morning). In fact this is the Church where Fr. Judge, the FDNY Chaplin killed on 9/11 was from.

Ths morning, I stopped in and had my confession with a very nice Franciscan priest and I actually did face to face. He didnt expect me to name everything over the 20 years as I was explaining everything going on in my life right now (job issues, sick spouse, etc…) and that I felt I was called to come back to God. He was profoundly happy over that and welcomed me back. He absolved me of my sins and said he would continue to pray for me and my family. I feel refreshed this morning…
