18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
,What do you say the verse are talking about is it talking about the book of REV or is it talking about the Bible.

The Book of Revelation. The canon of the Bible did not even exist yet at the time St. John penned Revelation. Note that St. John says “this book”.

Revelation.
Whenever I read those words, I remember with a shudder that Dr Luther:eek: wished he could take the whole book out of the Bible!!
Thank God for those who talked him out of it!!

The first verse was copied from Deuteronomy, and the curses in that book are quite sevier. In the second verse the “book of life” is actually the “tree of life” in the RSV. The fruit of the tree of life are to be eaten. That chapter begins with a description of the tree of life which is quite beautiful…

Bill,
I think the responses so far have been excellent. I’d only add that “add unto these things” or “take away from the words” seem to be very important, precise language, even in translation. I think they mean that the book of Revelation should be regarded in many verses as giving literal promises from God to humankind, and those promises shouldn’t be “watered down” or changed or re-taught in a different way than the literal, clear meanings. (As you may have guessed, I’m talking about the opportunity to inherit a “throne” with Christ and to become a “joint heir” with Him through His infinite grace offered to humankind.)

Point well taken but lets please remember Rev was not written until about 100ad give or take a few years and the cannon was not until 300 0r 400 years later==we did not know what books where going to be in the Bible. -----This book was only Rev.
