I’m very confused about this verse… Revelation 13:8 (King James Version)

8And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

What does “from the foundation of the world” mean? Does this mean everything was predestined before time began?

God is all knowing. Does He know where my final destination lies . . . yes of course. However, we are given free will. God gives us the grace and it’s up to us if we are going to accept it.

Here is a explanation of Revelation 13:8, “And all that dwell upon the earth adored him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb, which was slain from the beginning of the world,” from the Douay-Rheims Bible (Challoner):
“Slain from the beginning”… In the foreknowledge of God; and inasmuch as all mercy and grace, from the beginning, was given in view of his death and passion.
Hope this helps.

God bless,
ZP

Which ties in very nicely with the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception. 🙂

Apostle Paul says in Ephesians 1:4-6
As he chose us in him, before the foundation of the world, to be holy and without blemish before him. In love (5) he destined us for adoption to himself through Jesus Christ, in accord with the favor of his will (6) for the praise of the glory of his grace that he granted us in the beloved.(NAB)

I There is a book just out this year about a guy who was struck by lightning and then was dead for a good long twenty minutes or so. He then came back to life. I saw an interview on TV where he was promoting his book. He mentioned the time before time in the interview.

In Betty J. Eadie’s book, “The Awakening Heart,” she, too, talks of a time before time in her died-came-back story. According to her, though, her mind that is confined in the earthly human body can’t comprehend what she could comprehend while asking Jesus all of these questions that she had.

People on earth who’ve witnessed the flash of a heaven window opening also have seen a time before time.

Here is a quote from the Haydock Bible Commentary

Ver. 10. Here is the patience, &c. Here is the motive of the patience and the faith of the saints, or the servants of God in this world. By faith they rely on the promises of God for the reward of their patience, and leave him to vindicate as he may judge fit their cause with respect to their persecutors. (Pastorini)

Yes, God knew what He was going to do.

He knew before He made Adam and Eve that they would fall,a dn that He would have to send His son to save us. He knew those who would choose to accept His salvation too.

John is very keen on predestination - in gospel & Revelation alike.

And the answer is “yes” 😃 Everything in creation, that is, in any sense or at any level at all,** without exception** is included in God’s purpose. Peple are free to see this as tyrannical constraint - they probably can’t be argued out of doing so - but even so, that is a wrong way to see it. If God’s Providence really is universal (which is Catholic dogma) then Divine predestination of all creatures goes with it. 🙂

Nice answer! But I have several more question to ask:

Revelation 14:1 Mention about a Lamb
Revelation 14:14 Mention about Son of Man

Is this mean, the Lamb is our future TRUE Prophet who will lead the 144,000 to defeat the beast and his armies?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems like the Lamb is not Jesus…For Jesus(Son of Man) will be our Judge who come from the Sky and Cloud, and the Lamb is our Prophet who will lead those who are Faithful at the top of Mount Zion?

How many sides to YOUR personality do you have?
When you just meet up with someone, you try to present yourself in a certain way so that they will like you. When you’ve been dating a person for a year, you have learned to let your guard down and show yourself in a different light. For instance, if you burp around a new-meet, you are embarrassed. But if you burp around a familiar person, you may even laugh at the natural function.
Guess what? This same principle holds true for Jesus as well. He is both divine and human at the same time. Jesus is both shepherd and lamb. Jesus is both king and servant. Jesus is both defense attorney (savior) and judge. Jesus is both future teller (prophet) and future itself.
Completely comprehending the MYSTERY of dual nature is not possible in this life. We can only get a ball-park idea of what it is all about.

Artemus, what did John the Baptist call Jesus in John 1:29-34? “. . .the Lamb of God. . .” (And the number 144,000 is symbolic, not literal. )

If you are interested in a good Catholic study of “Revelation”, this book would be very helpful to you:

…I cant buy it
I see that you are from Malaysia. Being Catholic in this area is being in the minority, is it not?
I think there is a heavy influence of Islam teaching in that area. I can see where you may be confused.

My suggestion to you is to keep coming to this site. You will learn the truth as Catholicism is the original Christian church/teaching and great care has been given to protect the teaching as God’s truth.

Islam didn’t start until near 600 CE. Catholicism is a much older belief.

The Child and Son of Man, is also the Lion and the Lamb of the initial vision. The visions describe the same event from different perspectives. Some show what is happening in heaven and others what is happening on Earth. Some from the perspective of the saved and others from the perspective of the damned. Some see Jesus’ coming as a blessing and others see His coming as a woe.
