Verbum is running a sale on 2 new volumes of The Church’s Bible. (https://verbum.com/products/150287/the-churchs-bible-upgrade) This doesn’t appear to be a strictly Catholic work and I haven’t been able to find any Catholic commentary on it. There are 4 prior volumes of this series already available at Verbum. I have the Ignatius Study Bible and the Navarre Study Bible commentaries. But this commentary from the perspective of early church fathers seems interesting, assuming it wouldn’t be too far off the mark. (It is by definition looking at early Catholic/Orthodox-West/East theology if it’s looking at patristic sources.)
In looking at the author of one of these volumes - D. H. Williams - I’ve come across another of his books that looks similarly appealing. It is Retrieving the Tradition and Renewing Evangelicalism: A Primer for Suspicious Protestants. It’s on a certain online retailer Amazon.com I’m curious if anybody has read this and how fairly it treats Catholicism as clearly the author isn’t making the case that his fellow Protestants should go so far with “Tradition” as to become Roman Catholic. I’m in a Bible study where the other men in the group give me some good natured teasing as the “token Catholic”. If this book presents a fair portrayal, I’d be tempted to suggest it for a future study in the group.
