Review of the New Catholic Bible

The New Catholic Bible seems like a good Dynamic option for Catholics.

Personally, I most likely will still like to use the RSV-2CE and the new ESV-CE for Bible Study, but the NCB seems like a good read for purely devotional reading.

Review says it uses formal equivalence, not dynamic, FYI.
Hello Deacon,
The article (in part 2) actually says:
According to the short, one-page introduction to the New Catholic Bible (NCB), the goal of the translators was to “render as perfectly as possible a translation of literal or formal equivalence.

The NCB is more dynamic than the NABRE when it comes to grammar and sentence construction.
While the NABRE & NCB are no where as dynamic as the Good News Bible, they are not the same level of formal equivalence as the RSV-CE / RSV-2CE & ESV-CE

Both NABRE & NCB are middle of the road, sometimes considered “optimal equivalence”

I didn’t read all three parts of the review (and don’t intend to, as I’m not going to obtain this version of the Bible), but I did read part of it, and the information from the publisher, Catholic Book Publisher, which claims it to be a formal equivalence translation.

I would need to see the text myself to review a number of areas before recommending it to others.

In any regard, it’s nice to have a thread to discuss Scripture here.
So many of the threads are just repeats of repeats of repeats of dead-beaten horses. I am not sure why the search function isn’t used before starting another thread about a given topic, but that’s just a pet peeve of mine.
He who is ignorant of Scripture is ignorant of Christ,
Deacon Christopher
