Do any Scottish or Australian members have any information about the date when the English language translation of the third typical edition of the Roman Missal is to be published in Scotland or Australia?

I haven’t heard anything official yet but there is talk of it being at the same time as in America. Apparently the changes proposed by the British and Irish bishops conferences have not yet been granted recognito for the locally proposed changes

I haven’t heard much news about the Australian edition, other than that it is to be introduced in Advent 2011.

We get more news about the US edition. Earlier this year there was an announcement that the translation had been finalized and that it was going to the printers, to be ready for use in Advent, 2011.

So, we should have expected the translation to be available by now. However, there seem to have been some unexpected problems. Rumors that began on the blog Pray Tell began to swirl about some shadowy committee that had made some 10,000 changes to the final edition.

The latest news is that the US Bishop’s Conference sent a final version to the printers on Dec 15, and the version has been leaked on-line.

So, the Australian edition can be expected “soon” 🙂

When you say British I assume you mean England & Wales and Scotland. I posed the OP because I’ve emailed the English & Welsh Bishops’ Conference to ask when we’ll get the revised Missal. They said they were waiting for approved texts. They also said they were publishing simultaneously with Scotland (which I can understand) and Australia (why, I cannot fathom) so they also had to wait for their Bishops’ Conferences to get approved texts. (No mention of them publishing simultaneously with Ireland, which I would have thought made more sense than Australia.)

I asked about Australia because my Bishops’ Conference (England & Wales) have told me they’re publishing simultaneously with the Australian (and Scottish) Bishops’ Conferences.

I have previously read those websites you cited. I don’t know if that is causing the delay here. Eccleston Square have a reputation for dragging their feet, anyway.

Yes conferences plural, E&Ws, Scotland and Ireland
The current Divine Office is published jointly for E&Ws, Ireland, Scotland, and Australia, maybe the same reasoning applies to the missal.

The Irish conference issued a statement in June:
16 June 2010
Roman Missal
Press release by Bishops’ Conference
The Bishops welcomed the recent completion of the translation of the Third Edition of The Roman Missal and its approval by the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments. The Bishops look forward to its final editing and its use at Masses in Ireland towards the end of 2011.
The Bishops will engage in diocesan and parish programmes to help our congregations to understand and appreciate the new translation of the Mass so that the changes will serve, in the words of the Holy Father, “as a spring board for a renewal and deepening of Eucharistic devotion all over the English speaking world”.
A new edition of the Latin Missal was issued in 2002 and this new translation will replace the current Missal we have used since 1975. Since 1975 there have been many additions to the Missal. New feasts have been added to the Liturgical Calendar, new Eucharistic Prayers were issued and a new Calendar with many new prayers has been approved for Ireland . All of these will be included in the new edition under preparation.
Over the past six years the bishops have been receiving the new translation in segments from the International Commission on English in the Liturgy, a commission representing eleven Bishops’ Conferences in the English-speaking world. The most obvious difference will be the changes in translation since this has been done according to norms for translation issued in 2001. These norms call for a fuller faithful translation of the Latin, capturing the biblical resonances of our prayers more clearly and the rich words and phrases of the prayers, many more than 1200 years old.

For Australia…

According to my dioscean newspaper the Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, Gospel Acclamation, Agnus Dei from January 2011: to get used to singing them. Then it’s June (or did they say July) for the rest. 😃
