Revision of English "Liturgy of the Hours" to begin

Generally they’ll just approve whatever ICEL does. Last time they just approved the ICEL translation, unmodified.

At least this time hopefully someone will force them to do a proper Proper. Here we have St. Anne and St. Joachim as a Feast; the least they could do is give us a proper scriptural reading for the OoR (everything but intercessions and antiphons/psalms have universal propers for MP/EP).

Most of us still prefer the books (I know I still do). Personally I find the iBreviary app to be inflexible (Universalis has a much better and nice iPhone app, but the translation is, or course, not approved), and it also follows the US calendar (so there’re days where they don’t have the right offices for Canada).

I prefer books as well. However, I’ve found the app very handy on my android lately, not having to bring my breviary everywhere is really growing on me.

Oh yes, it’s very useful for when I don’t have my breviary on me.

I admit, the app is quite handy and it’s extremely convenient, but it feels like something’s missing. I don’t know, maybe it was because I learned to pray the LOTH using the books. At least I’m use to the books, because I’ll have to use them in the seminary anyways.

And on the other hand, I only use the bible that’s on my iPhone (RSV-CE) and barely ever use my paperback copy (also RSV-CE), and I enjoy reading regular books on my iPhone. I guess I’m just a little weird. 🤷

I’m the exact same way. I even got some nice ribbons for my book, but it’s just so easy to have my phone… 🙂

Using the books does, however, give you greater incentive to memorize the ordinary parts of the the Office. Less flipping, then.

Oh most certainly. I’m glad I used a book alone for a while before I switched to the phone. Although singing the office very frequently also helps lodge it up there.

If I am doing it in a group I can do it, but I prefer to read them when I do it with less then 2 or 3 people. I don’t want the tongue to slip when in a small group.

Groups are a bit harder. It’s easy to memorize the Benedictus, but I have no concrete idea where the stanzas begin or end (if you’re doing it in choir, which they do at the Seminary I’ll be starting at this fall). Same thing with Ps. 95.

Doesn’t your breviary/app display the discreet stanzas?

it was easier for me in a group because I started group prayer before I started private prayer, only referring to LOH. So when I’m at seminary the benedictus will just flow out my mouth with no issue.
