RI bishop: Synod process is 'rather Protestant'

I think she meant tipping tables over of those who wish to change doctrine and/or tradition to prove a point and reaffirm that the Church will not and cannot change. So it wouldn’t be Burke’s tables flipping, unless you’re saying he falls into the category of advocating for change in the Church?

I see. I guess I figured table flipping might not necessarily be what some perceive as a doctrine change, but a way of indicating who is acting in such a way to be contrary to the wishes of our Lord according to the Pope.

That’s essentially what I just said. Many dont think that it is Burke that is acting contrary to the wishes of our Lord. Many perceive those acting contrary to the wishes of our Lord to be the ones who advocate for a change.

Maybe many doesn’t include the Pope?

I can’t call him out for using Protestant as an derogatory since I find myself doing it now and again. Just this past Sunday I was in a terrible mood. My wife jokingly said that she thought people come back from Chuch in a good mood. I replied, “What am I, a Protestant?” 😊

I’ve heard that argument, but not from this bishop.

But it is true that up to the time of Vatican II, Protestantism was the only major religion in the world which used all-vernacular in its worship.

Just sayin…

If he is sending a message about Burke, it must be in code, like so many things Pope Francis says. 🤷

When Jesus flipped tables and drove out the money changers, there was no question as to what or why he was doing what he was doing. With Francis, we can only guess.

Maybe the Pope doesn’t feel that is an effective way to make his point. After all, it was a fairly rare incident in the life of Jesus as well based on what was recorded in the Gospels.

And maybe the code is obvious to those that need to understand it and maybe that doesn’t include us.
 
Read the article. Agree with the sentiment completely. Starting to wonder if the Catholic Church that I converted to is about to split like the Protestantism that I left has.

I doubt it would take more than once. Could you imagine the media reports if Pope Francis went all Jesus in the Temple? It could take months for people to recover from the shock. 😛

Certainly would. I wonder if we’d be surprised by which people are more shocked.

I do not recall where I first read it or who (I heard) say it first, but the S-word has been suggested here and there.
