Ribbon placement in my Missal

Recently, I bought myself a Saint Paul Daily Missal and was wondering where I place the ribbons in it? Also, if anyone has it at home if they could share some photos on here on what it looks like please?

I attend Mass everyday with the exception of Saturday so I need a Missal that will help me with the readings and the prayers too. I currently own a missalette but it is becoming expensive buying a new one every month. A quick update on myself since becoming Catholic at this year’s Easter Vigil, I am currently reading at weekday Mass once or twice a week and my parish priest wants me to get onto the Sunday readers rota. I count it an absolute privilege to be given the grace to read at Mass and proclaim Sacred Scripture. My nerves have quelled ever so slightly but I pray beforehand that I faithfully proclaim His Word. I am also finding a new found love for our Blessed Lady during this month - as it being her month.

If I understand you correctly you are asking what pages to mark with ribbons?

The short answer is, “Any pages you WANT to mark.”

For a longer answer I would need to know how many ribbons there are. I think five is a typical number of ribbons but if you have more or less then obviously you can mark more or less pages.

I don’t have your missal so perhaps you should wait for another response but I would say no matter what missal you use you would want one ribbon to mark the the Ordinary of the Mass and one ribbon to mark the readings for day.

With other ribbons you might want to mark the section which has optional readings, a section that has hymns, a page with a calendar, an index, or the table of contents.

I have several robins in my missal. I use one to mark the Introit or start of the Mass so I can open right to it. I also mark the readings for that day. I have marked the “Prayers before Mass” and :“Prayers after Mass” sections

Mine (2012 printing) has four ribbons, but I generally only use my missal for the daily things-- so, for example, today would be the Fifth Week of Easter: Thursday (p. 693), and that ribbon will give me the entrance antiphon, the collect, first reading, responsorial psalm, alleluia, and gospel. It refers me to p. 842 for the Liturgy of the Eucharist, and continues on to the Prayer Over the Offerings, tells me which Preface to use and what page it’s to be found on, the Communion Antiphon, and the Prayer After Communion.

If I really wanted to, I could set my ribbons to the Liturgy of the Eucharist (p. 842) and the Preface of Easter II-V (p. 896-898), but since I don’t use my missal for that, I wouldn’t. If I’m at a service in another language (Spanish, Latin, whatever), I might be more likely to make greater use of those pages.

Hello.

Thanks for asking this question. I’ve been wondering about ribbon placement in my Sunday Missal - but I have 6 ribbons, and I’m not sure if the colors stand for something, or some particular section, or if the colors are different just so I’ll recognize the various sections I’ve marked.

I have a Catholic Truth Society Daily Missal. It has 6 ribbons. One is used to mark the Sundays of the year, another marks the Prefaces (for Easter), a third is used to mark the 2nd Eucharistic Prayer (the one most commonly used). A 4th is used to mark the weekday Mass, the 5th marks the feast day in the Propers of the Saints, and the 6th the relevant Common - of martyrs, apostles, etc.

Besides that, I have various post-it flags marking the beginning of Mass, and various other places I need on a regular basis. I use specific colors for different things, to be easily able to idenitfy them If I could, I would have a Missal with about 15 ribbons!!

You just figure out where you want to be able to turn to quickly, and mark that with a ribbon or something else. You can also use prayer cards, if you like. Whatever helps you to navigate easily.
