While a gift is a wonderful gesture, it’s not a necessity. Over the next several months you should be able to get to know your sponsor well enough to choose a gift for them. It doesn’t have to lavish or expensive. A book, a nice rosary, a small statue, just head into a nice Catholic book store and you should be able to find something.

For a sponsor walking this journey with you and being there when you receive the sacraments if gift enough, at least for me it is.

You might consider having a Mass celebrated for your sponsor. If you set things up in advance, you could arrange for you and your sponsor to attend the Mass that day.

To request a Mass intention, you would contact your parish office. You usually make an offering and they will give you a card you can give to your sponsor.

Have a Mass said. It is the best gift anyone can receive!

I got my sponsor a pin, as I was being baptized so they were actually going to be my godparent. But what I think was more meaningful was that I sat and handwrote a letter thanking them for sponsoring me and telling them how important this was and how much they had helped. The pin was nice, but it was the letter that they really appreciated.
