from the article: I couldn’t help but have two thoughts. The first is that acting like there is no God is what got a lot of those people in the problems they’re in. The second was the word ‘probably’ jumped out at me.
Dawkins himself does not presume to know for absolute certainty that there is no God.

I believe, he places himself on the believing in a God scale…one being certain God exists and 7 being certain God does not exist…

Dawkins puts himself at a 6.99. That’s why you see the word probably.

I think we’re saying the same thing, only in different words. Again, I don’t presume to know why Dawkins believes what he does nor his ultimate destiny based on his beliefs and actions. However, whenever he or someone else attempts to influence others with statements that we Christians believe to be false and possibly dangerous to the souls of others, we are obliged to speak up. I respect his free will and right to believe in whatever he chooses, but I will speak up in defense of the Pope and our Church’s official teachings. He has the right to make his comment about blood being on the Pope’s hands and others have the right (and duty) to refute that. That is the basis of my original comment, not a personal attack on a person who deserves our respect regardless of disagreement.
I agree with you. I think where this whole thing gets thrown off is when Dawkins tries to respond to the Pope’s comment as if the Pope were speaking about biological science, rather than as a pastor.

This happens a lot, not only to popes but to many public figures. They’ll make a comment within their field and the media or someone else will interpret it outside of the proper field. When you do that, it sounds dumb.

In this case, Dawkins did something dumb. He’s trying to speak biology while the pope is trying to speak morality.

Excerpt from story…

‘Speaking at a university in Spain, he said: "I wonder on what basis anyone can say condoms make Aids worse. The Pope is either stupid, ignorant or dim.’
It is a silly argument he makes. Taking some scientific data, interpreting it, and then formulating public health policy without regard to morality really does not lead to a good end.

Part of the problem is he starts from a premise that either denies basic Truth or misdefines good and freedom. Given that I can see why he criticizes the Pope. I mean he seems confused about so much it is not difficult to see why he draws such erroneous conclusions. He needs prayers for conversion.

I’ll sustain my position, which is similar to your own. Dawkin is taking moral teaching and trying to make it fit medical sociology. That does not always work. When it fails to work, he calls it dumb rather than admitting that the two disciplines are on different planes and should work with each other.

Again, these University Professors, these “genius, brights, and intellectuals” are so much smarter than us “stupid, ignorant and dim” Catholics and our Pope, because they use scientific facts and reason and not just “stupid, ignorant and dim” Faith?

The problem is the fact that they only use science when it is convenient, not when it clearly disproves their lies.

The Harvard AIDS study, run by a self-described liberal and senior research scientist at the Harvard School of Public Health, (Harvard is hardly a pro-life, pro-Catholic hotbed) is completely ignored when their findings, using government statistics, concluded that AIDS has increased in every country in Africa that is promoting condom use.

The Harvard AIDS study concluded only one country, Uganda, had a decrease in AIDS, because Uganda promotes abstinence or sticking to one partner (Catholics prefer the idea of the life long marriage commitment and fidelity), not condom use to prevent the spread of AIDS!

Sounds like the Pope is pretty smart and Professor Dawkins may be the one who is “stupid, ignorant and dim”, not to mention closed-minded and just plain wrong!

I am praying for Prof. Dawkins and all of the others who promote the agenda of Death!

Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, Ora Pro Nobis Peccatoribus!

Mark
