I notice that a lot of Protestants use several translations…one translation does not wholly conform to thier personal belief and interpretation.
More like, sometimes one translation expresses one verse better than other translations, and another translation expresses another verse better. During my 30+ years as a Protestant, I don’t remember anyone choosing a translation because it conformed to his/her beliefs (except for the KJV-only-ers). Mostly it was just a personal preference.

Back to Rick–I managed to get out of Protestantism before PDL really caught on at the level of the small churches I was attending. I think there’s enough relevant stuff from reliable Catholic sources to warrant ignoring Warren.

a good alternative to PDL for Catholics is Life Work book, study guide and resources from Ignatius Press.

Christened Catholic, raised whatever religion the relative was that I happened to be staying with. Mom died young, I was raised Baptist for a while. There is a huge mix of religious denominations in my family, both Christian and non-Christian.

Because of Auriel’s comment, I decided to do a search on “Errors of The Purpose Driven Life” and I found this:

moriel.org/articles/discernment/church_issues/15_principal_errors_of_purpose_driven_life.htm

This is a must read for those that support Rick Warren.
Joey you are using a protestant fundalmentalist web site to debunk Rick Warren?

MORIEL is an evangelistic ministry to people of other faiths, beginning with the Jews and nominal (non-evangelical) Christians, such as Roman Catholics and liberal Protestants. We also hold seminars on Messianic apologetics, and on Islamic evangelism, and cult evangelism.

Here is some of that groups teachings;

*The complete Bible constituting the supreme authority for our faith and ministry. We accept the Bible as the only basis of true doctrine. *

*We hold to a pre-millennium return of Christ at which time He will establish his millennium Kingdom on earth. *

*We accept that Gentiles who truly accept Jesus replace Jews who reject Him; however, these are incorporated into Israel in a spiritual sense (on the basis of Romans 11), rather than the church replacing Israel - a teaching which we hold to be error. *

*We hold to believer’s baptism. *

*We yearn for the unity of the Spirit, such unity seen as with other Bible-based evangelical Christians, churches, and ministries - even where we may not share all the same nonessential doctrines. *

*However, we reject - as a false unity - ecumenism or unity with any form with non-evangelical versions of Christianity, having a different doctrine of salvation and a basis of doctrinal authority other than the Bible *

By whose authority is your source?

Here is link to a book that has the Catholic perspective on the Purpose Driven Life.

Their are problems with PDL, but we should look at it through a Catholic perspective not a bible only anti-Warren group.

But what do you claim to be today?

I believe in God, I believe in the Trinity, I believe that Jesus Christ was the son of God. I do not belong to any denomination. But I can say after exploring various teachings, there is no way I would ever join a Church of Mind Controlled sheep such as Saddleback! LOL And I will not apologize or back down from that statement, I see that type of political and religious teaching as truly dangerous.

They would not have me I am sure, I would be one they would have to shun in love.

What experience have you had with them to make you think they are a mind-controlling cult?

Another problem was the use of several different Bible translations. I do use more than one in my own personal study, but I felt like it interfered with the flow of the book. That’s just personal opinion of course! 😉
What translations does he use?

I am a Catholic, and I use more than one translation for that same reason (because one translation expresses one verse better, and another translation expresses another verse better). There are lots of different Catholic Bibles, as well as lots of different Protestant Bibles.
