Before we receive the Body of Christ, we say, “Lord, I’m not worthy to receive you, but only say the word and I shall be healed.”

I understand that we’re not worthy to receive him because of our sinful nature, but can someone explain the next part of that.

Are we looking for the Lord to say we are worthy? is that all there is to it…

Thanks!

What we say there before communion comes from Matthew 8:8.

"But the centurion said, “Lord, I am not worthy for You to come under my roof, but just say the word, and my servant will be healed.”

So when we say it we are acknowledging our sinfulness but we are asking Christ to heal us of that unworthiness just like he healed the servant.

God Bless,
Matt
