I pledge to stay in church right down to the last note played and last word sung at Mass tomorrow.
I know in a previous thread, there has been the debate as to when parishoners should leave…right after the priest and party have left the church or after the recessional hymn is completed.
For the sake of the music ministers, my plan is to stay put until all the singing is done.
Will I sing during the Mass? That has yet to be determined. As I have stated, singing is not what I do best. If I were to try our for America’s Got Talent, singing would not be my talent.
But, I will let the Holy Spirit move me tomorrow. If the Holy Spirit wants me to sing, then I will give it my best shot. Just for the sake of my brothers and sisters there, I will try to sit in an area away from others, who might have to listen to my voice. LOL 👼
 
It’s like my deacon says…“The Lord says make a joyful noise, and I accomplish that at every Mass.”

I am not so sure that joyful is how one would describe my singing voice. 🎤
 
I don’t sing well either, but I figure this is the voice God gave me so this is the voice he wants to hear.
 
Don’t let things bother you. I sing in the cracks between the keys. Nevertheless I sing.

Then there is the phrase “if you can sing good, sing loud” 😉

Never let that kep you from singing. No wonder voice here, but God gave it to me so I’ll give it back in song.

I hail from a long line of professional musicians and vocalists on my dad’s side. My brother is a minor celeb, my grandmother was a professional Opera singer.

Everyone sings in my family, even my mom. Now, mom cannot sing on tune. The most beautiful memory of my childhood is listening to my mamma sing. Standing in church she would sing out loud, off key and it was truly a symphony to me.

Sing. Just sing.

Well, you know you were going to get a response from me! LOL! I know you told me in the last thread no promises, but I think you will like your decision. If your director planned correctly, the Closing Song should be related as close as possible to the Good Shepherd or Easter theme or words of sending forth praising God.

About your voice: I think Pup7 would agree here, that not every one in the choir is pitch perfect either; and, yes, the organist (sorry Pup) along with a pianist and other instrumentalists hit a couple of “blue” notes from time to time. So, like “TheLittleLady” said: “sing, just sing!” If not yet, listen and pray the words they sing.

Let us know how it goes. I would love to know the name of the Closing Song too.

The great news is you don’t have to be an America Got Talent candidate to sing in the mass. Singing is prayer prayed twice. Just kidding you.

Now Thank We All Our God was the recessional hymn today.
I did my best to sing it, but it wasn’t pretty. Fortunately, only one parishoner behind me and two in front and to the left of me. And all three were quick to leave. LOL

FYI, we began the Mass with Holy God We Praise Thy Name.
“Infinite Thy vast domain. Everlasting is Thy reign…”
 
Entrance hymn was The Lord my Shepard and recessional was God’s Blessing sends us Forth.

Congratulations my friend! You stayed and I know the people in the choir and the music director noticed and from my vantage point, just like other music ministers here, they where glad that you did.

Sounds as if your church sings a repertoire of traditional hymns. You must have been hearing these for years. Usually very easy to sing. You did your best and bless you…God heard and to Him, it was pretty!

How did you feel after staying and singing?
 
I felt good.
We are here on earth for two reasons:
  1. To give glory to God is all that we say and do.
  2. To love and serve our brothers and sisters in Christ.
    By staying and trying to sing, I feel that both missions were accomplished.
 
I love this song and the performance in this video. Beautiful voice accompanied by a pianist.

Great to hear. Keeping it all on the same post, Talbot’s “Holy Is His Name” is a staple for us for Marian feasts like Immaculate Conception and Assumption. Great song.
