Right or wrong: A gay-pride march of homosexuals who avowedly never engage in sexual acts?

Silence is now teaching? Look, it seems you want the Church to be wrong. I have yet to see proof She has taught error.
To know and not to know, to be conscious of complete truthfulness while telling carefully constructed lies, to hold simultaneously two opinions which cancelled out, knowing them to be contradictory and believing in both of them, to use logic against logic, to repudiate morality while laying claim to it, to believe that democracy was impossible and that the Party was the guardian of democracy, to forget whatever it was necessary to forget, then to draw it back into memory again at the moment when it was needed, and then promptly to forget it again: and above all, to apply the same process to the process itself. That was the ultimate subtlety: consciously to induce unconsciousness, and then, once again, to become unconscious of the act of hypnosis you had just performed. Even to understand the word ‘doublethink’ involved the use of ‘doublethink.’

I wonder if George Orwell would be surprised that his dystopian vision of thought control – complete with total obedience to the state, denial of historical events, and a conscious lapse of reason – turned out not to be from a secular dictatorship but from the most devoutly religious conservatives. You hold up reason as an aid to faith – except when it might lead a faithful sheep away from his sheppard. In that case, reason and common sense is something to be avoided. You assert that the church has never taught wrong, and then deny the clear, historical evidence to the contrary. When the Church comes out with a new teaching – it’s not something new at all – it’s just written down and “fully explained” now. The Church has always taught that doctrine, it just became “official” and declared. And, of course, there’s the never-ending command for unwavering obedience to the Church – and the constant reminder that this is God’s one true representative on earth.

I don’t think I’ve encountered similar sentiments in most homosexuals or in most Catholics that I’ve met.

Interesting definition, but I don’t think most would agree, making the def. useless.
Actually, I was kind of thinking that I liked the distinctive use of the two words. I have often wondered how anyone can accept homosexuality after seeing the displays of depravity in so-called ‘gay pride’ parades. I can see now how someone can consider themselves a homosexual but not gay, just as one might be an alcoholic but not a drunk. Does that make any sense?

Silence in the face of sinfulness has always been a teacher.

Your’e now getting my point. The Church is a dynamic, not static institution.
That’s a terrible point though. One could never “know” anything. No one should ever then have confidence that the Church ever held “Truth”, but only “truth”.

The church is dynamic in the sense that it grows and adds more, but it does not change it’s past teachings.

As I asked Bob, where’s your proof?

so! back to the topic at hand. would it be useful for a group of people who have SSA to march in a pride parade, showing pride in their chastity?

I know you didn’t ask me, but for what it’s worth I say no. :twocents: Does a recovering alcoholic parade about? Does a pedophile who must take medication to repress his disordered desires advertise as such? Same sex affective disorder (or SSAD) is still a perversion. For one man or woman to love another of the same gender as men and women love each other is disordered. It must at all times be repressed through prayer, counseling and the desire to overcome it. :crossrc:

Oh, it does. Me. 🙂

I guess God’s going to send me to hell, then, right? Heh. Well, I’m a pretty nice person. Seems … cruel … to punish me with eternal hellfire for … just loving someone.

But I guess that’s a big part of why I don’t believe in a God to begin with. It just doesn’t make sense to call a being who would do that good.
My first thought when I read this is that I think you do believe in God or that at least you want to very badly. Why else would you be here? You say you’re a nice person so I have to assume you’re not here to bash but maybe to find some answers? I’ll remember you in my prayers.:blessyou:

I disagree with you here. The parade wouldn’t celebrate the disorder, but the overcoming of it. Many people today believe that if you have SSA you have to act on it and live a gay lifestyle. A public display of people who choose to fight it and live a chaste life could help to correct the false notions people have.

Another perspective might be to look at events like the Special Olympics. They don’t celebrate disablities, they celebrate the things people are able to accomplish despite their disabilities. (Please don’t twist this out of context and accuse me of calling SSA a disability)

ITA. if there were a yearly parade of proud alchoholics or proud pedophiles (NAMBLA, anyone?*), it seems like it would be the duty of people who have overcome these problems to show themselves in public, with pride.

*i don’t know about other cities, but the seattle pride organization forbade NAMBLA to march in its parade. they do have some standards. 😉

they must be catholic
its important to support them in maintaining their chastity as an example to the rest of society to follow. after all, isn’t that what the church teaches: no sex outside of marriage?

wouldn’t it be ironic if the these particular homosexuals saved our society from sexual immorality by their good and holy example as witnesses to chaste living.

how was the parade by the way?

how’s about a straight man’s chaste parade? now that would really turn the world upside down.

There is no actual parade. This thread questions whether such a thing might be possible or helpful.
