I have a picture of the Divine Mercy, it’s old and the picture is ripped. It’s ripped at our Lord’s face. I tried to put it back together but I thought it wasn’t nice to have a ripped picture nor did I want to take it down so I pit a smaller, not ripped (I don’t think) beside the larger image. Is it wrong for me to have religious pictures that have become folded, teared/ripped or not in a very good condition. Is it a sin to leave these up? I used to kiss the image when I was younger, was this okay?
Also, is it okay to have religious items that aren’t blessed? Is it not bad? Is it okay to write/underline etc in Bibles or religious books?
Is it okay to bless ourselves with religious items, whether blessed or not?

God Bless

You can keep them ripped or not or you can throw them out. Pictures and religious objects are not sacred in themselves but what they represent may be. Ask yourself, are you kissing ink and paper or doing devotion to the Lord?

You can keep the image if it has some sentimental value to you. If you want to dispose of it, you can burn it, and either bury the ashes in your yard, or garden. The main reason one would do this is so that others who may not share your faith and devotion who may desecrate it by putting it to an unflattering or anti-religious use would not be able to do so, and it’s a bit nicer than tossing it into the regular garbage can.

I don’t feel good about throwing them away, whether that be in a bin or not.
I used to kiss the image years ago when I was younger, as love for the Lord. But that may of been how it ripped, I’m sorry it ripped as well as other religious things.

So I’m not sinning by keeping ripped, damaged (as in, not in the best condition or broken eg. Rosary beads, bracelets) etc religious goods?

I personally would keep those pictures.

I once saw an old lady pick up a damp prayer bookmark with a picture of Our Lady from a gutter.

However the general rule whenever throwing these things away to is 1) Burn them or 2) burry them.

Just keep them. Put them away and get a replacement if need be.

Thanks. I have a Holy Water Font with a Crucifix. There’s no holy water in it though, but it’s on the wall. One of the arms came off. I’m not sure wear it is. Should I leave it up or take it down? Should I fill it with Holy Water? Is it okay to still use even if it is broken?

You can still use all of these holy images and things. If you really don’t want to keep them anymore because you want newer images you could always give them away to someone else that will use them faithfully. If you want, I would take them and put them to use but you don’t need to do that. Keep them and venerate them.

If you have any questions or would like to give anything away, please don’t hesitate to PM or email me.

God bless!

Meant to say “where” not “wear” in that post! Sorry!

And thanks
