The rite of election maybe? It’s where catechumen write there name in the book of the elicit. I participated in that ceremony last sunday

Hi, sw. We had our Rite of Sending last Sunday too. But this is listed in our schedule as Ritual for Candidates this coming Sunday. Forgot to ask our DRE about it.

Is anyone familiar with this? We are having ours this Sunday.
I have mine this Sunday as well. We had the rite of sending two weeks ago, the rite of election last Saturday with the bishop.

This coming Sunday is the Penitential Rite for Candidates.

This is something related to the church community praying for our sacrament of reconciliation upcoming and us showing our sorrow for our sins. It is the candidate version of the upcoming scrutinies for the catechumens (now elect).

As for details …I will find out Sunday ! 🙂

Great, thanks, Jon . That makes sense. I have emailed the DRE about this.

I found this youtube video showing the rite…its a still shot slideshow, but it gives you the idea.

I pray it will be an enriching time for you on Sunday!

I am jealous you are in the Chicago Archdiocese, as I follow Fr Barron very closely and all of his masses and events are in the Chicago Area! He is coming this weekend to California to be the keynote speaker at our Religious Ed Conference, so I am excited to see him in person finally, his videos were very instrumental in my personal conversion.

God Bless!

We use Fr. Barron’s Catholicism series in our RCIA classes. He is the Rector-President of Mundelein Seminary.

This Sunday we have the Call to Continuing Conversion for our candidates. It is similar to the Rite Of Election but they do not sign the book of the Elect. They are presented to one of our bishops. The Penitential Rite for candidates is an optional rite (as is the Call to Continuing Conversion) that is done in the parish and is sort of like the scrutinies but only for candidates since they don’t take part in the scrutinies.

Thanks, Jm. We usually get printed handouts for the Rites but not for this one. Would like to have an idea of the Liturgy/responses etc. I have contacted our DRE and my sponsor and am awaiting their replies.

I just got this from my religious Ed coordinator. I don’t think there are any responses for us.
Hello Candidates!

Just a reminder that we will be celebrating the Penitential Rite at the 12:15 mass this Sunday.
The Rite will take place immediately following the Homily and there will be no dismissal (since you are all baptized).

The purpose of the Penitential Rite is to help you prepare your hearts as you approach the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Confirmation and Eucharist. We know that we do not deserve the Grace offered to us, and so we approach Christ with humility and thanksgiving for such rich heavenly gifts.

I have included in this email the text of the prayer that Father will be praying over you. I encourage you to meditate on the words over the next few days and soften your hearts to allow the Holy Spirit to work in and through you!
Peace be with you,
Lord God,
in the mystery of the transfiguration
your Son revealed his glory to the disciples
and prepared them for his death and resurrection.

Open the minds and hearts of these candidates
to the presence of Christ in their lives.
May they humbly acknowledge their sins and failings
and be freed of whatever obstacles and falsehoods
keep them from adhering wholeheartedly to your kingdom.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

R: Amen.
Code:
The celebrant then lays hands on each one of the candidates.

Then, with hands outstretched over all of them, he continues:
Lord Jesus,
you are the only-begotten Son,
whose kingdom these candidates acknowledge
and whose glory they seek.
Pour out upon them the power of your Spirit,
that they may be fearless witnesses to your Gospel
and one with us in the communion of love,
for you are Lord for ever and ever.

R: Amen.

I received the Rite today in the mail from the DRE. Penitential Rite for Candidates. It is done after the homily. Candidates kneel and the sponsor puts their right hand on our shoulder. There are prayers and intercessions. The Priest lays hands on us and prays.

If a catechumenate cannot attend the Rite of Sending will he/she have to start the process all over again?

Is it the same for the Rite of Election?

The rite of sending is just a rite of your parish to show their support.

They don’t need to start over again.

It is different than the rite of election.
